Shepherd's pie is a dish originally from England, consisting of baked mashed potatoes with minced meat, and vegetables, onions and various spices are also often added to it. But, as we understand, this is nothing more than the simplest potato casserole with minced meat, which exists in many countries, and it can be called differently everywhere. I present to you my version of this dish, in my opinion, everything in this casserole turned out very harmoniously, and therefore the result was very tasty. But you, of course, can change something to your taste, for example, you can use any other minced meat to your taste. Instead of corn, you can use frozen green peas, boiled broccoli, green beans and much more. You can also additionally add fried mushrooms, pieces of smoked meat and much more. The dish turns out to be simple, satisfying, homemade, very tasty, and even novice cooks can handle its preparation.

Preparation:

Let's prepare the filling.
Peel the onion and chop finely.
Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan, add onion, fry until transparent and lightly golden.

Add minced meat, mix well, fry for about 20 minutes.

Then add tomato paste, chopped garlic, salt and pepper, mix well.
Cook over low heat, covered, for about another 20-40 minutes or until the minced meat is completely soft. The minced meat should not turn out too dry; if necessary, add a little boiling water.

Peel the potatoes, cut into arbitrary pieces, add water, salt, and cook until fully cooked.

Then drain all the liquid.
Mash the potatoes by adding butter and cream.

Then add the egg, mix well, add salt if necessary.
If you already have mashed potatoes prepared the day before, that will also work great for this dish.

Assembling the casserole.
Grease the mold with oil (mine is 20 cm in diameter).
Add about half of the mashed potatoes and smooth out.

Add corn to the minced meat in the pan and stir.
Place a second layer in the mold and smooth it out.

Place the remaining puree on top and smooth it out.
Mix the egg with cream and pour onto the surface of the casserole.

Place in an oven preheated to 180 degrees and cook for about 30-40 minutes.
About halfway through baking, sprinkle with grated cheese.

I would like to note that the finished casserole will not be cut into even pieces, but will crumble slightly when unfolding; this is absolutely normal for this type of dish. It will be good to cut only when it has cooled down, but it is better to serve the casserole hot, it tastes better that way.
If desired, you can serve with sour cream or other sauce.
Potato casserole with minced meat is perfect for lunch or dinner, and both children and adults will love it!
