Phones smartphone sony xperia e4. Sony Xperia E4 - Specifications

The smartphone has classic design and robust, one-piece body.

One of the main features of the device is the ability to work with two SIM cards, which will allow you to use "personal" and "business" SIM cards in one device. It also gives additional flexibility in choosing a tariff for mobile Internet and calls.

MediaTek MT6582 quad-core processor with 1.3GHz frequency and 1GB RAM ensures fast and smooth operation of Android 4.4 KitKat OS, and 5 inch IPS display with 960 x 540 pixels resolution provides bright and clear image. Built-in memory is 8 GB, expandable with cards microSD memory up to 32 GB to store big photo, video and, of course, music, because the Walkman audio player is installed in the phone, which provides excellent audio quality, both in headphones and when played through the speaker.

The 2300 mAh battery guarantees up to two days of active use, thanks to Stamina's proprietary energy saving technology. In phone Sony Xperia E4 Dual E2115 Black installed modules Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and micro-USB connector for data transfer to a personal computer. The GPS navigation module with A-GPS technology makes it easy to navigate the city and quickly determine the location.

The main camera of 5 megapixels is responsible for high-quality photos, with the function of automatically recognizing shooting conditions and selecting the optimal parameters. Other highlights of the camera include HDR technology, face detection, and many applications specifically for it. The front camera has a resolution of 2 megapixels and allows you to take high-quality selfies and make video calls.

In order not to lose sales volumes (which, unfortunately, have not pleased the company's management lately), Sony is focusing not only on the release of flagship smartphones. To fill in the gaps among budget devices, the Sony Xperia E4 Dual was released in January 2015, a device aimed at the lower price category. At the time of writing the review, the cost of the device was about $ 140 in stores. For the Chinese, the model will cost about 15 "green" cheaper.

The main feature of the smartphone is the frames around the screen: they are quite miniature, which is rare for an inexpensive device. The case itself does not stand out from the competition, since other Sony products, as well as Lenovo and a dozen other Chinese companies, have something similar. This is a classic rectangular case with rounded edges and a back panel. Only the aluminum lock/off key on the right side stands out. Presented Xperia E4 Dual in two colors: black and white. In the first case, the body looks monolithic, while in the second case, a light frame stands out around the dark touchscreen.

The use of Taiwanese iron looks unusual for Sony. After all, traditionally the company uses Qualcomm products. But considering that even HTC in the updated version of their flagship M9 installed a chipset from MTK, the use of a budget quad-core from this company in an inexpensive Sony does not look something strange.

CPU

MT6582, on the basis of which the Xperia E4 Dual is built, needs no introduction. Four cores with a frequency of 1300 MHz, the Mali 400 MP2 GPU are familiar to most owners of budget devices on Android based. Therefore, 18 thousand points in AnTuTu look like a regularity. The performance of the chipset is sufficient for most everyday tasks, with the exception of only the heaviest games that can slow down.

Memory

Xperia E4 Dual is equipped with a gigabyte of RAM. We did not expect anything else from a budget smartphone. This volume is enough to run several background programs, run heavy games and smoothly switch between tasks. The only trouble that users may encounter is a slight delay when switching between programs, if you do not restart the smartphone for several days, while actively using it.

The built-in memory in the Xperia E4 Dual is 8 GB, about 5 of them are available to the user. If it seems not enough to anyone, you can expand it. Fortunately, the smartphone has a microSD slot. It's a pity, only memory modules up to 32 GB are supported.

Battery

The battery capacity in the Xperia E4 is 2300 mAh, which looks normal for an inexpensive device. The operating time can not be called outstanding, but it is quite decent. So, FullHD video will drain the battery in 7 hours, and in the web surfing mode, the device will work for an hour or two more. If you use the Sony Xperia E4 Dual only for rare calls, then you will have to look for an outlet every two to three days.

Camera

The matrix of the Sony Xperia E4 camera has a resolution of only 5 MP, which today seems to be a disadvantage. In fact, the pictures are of average quality, they are comparable to those of other inexpensive devices, and sometimes even seem better. Most likely, the HDR mode contributes to this, which, in the automatic shooting mode, strives to turn on every time. Yes, and the flash is powerful enough, you can use it for its intended purpose, and as a flashlight.

The front camera of the smartphone has a resolution of 2 MP and is suitable for both communication and selfies. In short, the photographic part of the E4 is not far behind. It is understandable: the camera has always been strong point Japanese, since the days of the legendary K750.

Display

But the screen of the Sony Xperia E4 Dual upset us a little. Why it was not possible to use a display with a resolution of 1280x720 is unknown. Most likely, this was done in order not to interfere with sales of more expensive models. But, one way or another, the five-inch Xperia E4 display received a resolution of only 960x540 pixels. Not to say that this is catastrophically small, but by no means a lot. At 220 pixels per inch, although the graininess is not striking, you can see the dots without a magnifying glass. The screen backlight is bright, the color reproduction is correct, but the viewing angles are a little disappointing.

Connection

The smartphone is equipped with two slots for SIM cards, located under the cover on the side. Supported standards GSM communications and 3G. And although E4g modifications under the numbers E2003, E2006 and E2053 work with fourth-generation networks, our hero (E2115) is deprived of their support.

Multimedia

The musical capabilities of the smartphone are above average. The speaker is loud, the sound is clear and quite juicy. You can’t call it ideal (we haven’t come across such ones yet), but everything is quite worthy. And with headphones, the situation is even better. Moreover, the Xperia E4 supports FLAC playback out of the box.

operating system

OS installed in Xperia E4 android version 4.4, which is equipped with Sony's proprietary custom shell. In general, its work is not satisfactory: tasks switch smoothly, the interface is smart. And yes, it looks quite nice.

Pros and Cons of Sony Xperia E4 Dual E2115

Advantages:

  • high-quality case with small frames around the display;
  • good multimedia potential.

Flaws:

  • the screen is weak;
  • no LTE;
  • built-in memory is not enough.

Our review of the Sony Xperia E4 Dual E2115

As our review showed, the only major drawback of the Sony Xperia E4 is the lack of screen resolution. Nevertheless, 960x540 pixels is not enough for modern device. But, be that as it may, the rest of the device is good. If you forget about the price, of course. $140 is not that much, but somehow too much for a smartphone without an HD display, and even on MTK. However, Sony fans will always find an argument in favor of their favorite manufacturer, and often they will be right.

Therefore, if you want a quality smartphone with good sound, but at the same time the screen does not matter, and the camera is needed only occasionally, then you can look towards the E4. The device is contraindicated except for those who are used to viewing individual pixels both on the screen and in photographs. Connoisseurs of a clear image are likely to be disappointed.

Review of the smartphone Sony Xperia XZ: the second flagship of the year

In our opinion, the Sony Xperia E4 smartphone looks simple and quite cheap. Its dimensions are 137 × 74.6 × 10.7 mm. The body of the device is small in height, but wide. As a rule, budget employees, for example, Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime or Philips S398, are a little longer and narrower. The device has an impressive thickness - up to 10.7 mm, the smartphone clearly does not claim to be a thin device. The new product weighs 145 grams, the same weight as a 5-inch YotaPhone 2 or HTC Desire 610.

As for the appearance, it seems that the design of the Xperia models has already become boring for the company itself. Now the smartphone has more rounded shapes, there is a removable cover “enveloping” the body, almost like in Lumia smartphones (however, it is strange that the phone’s battery is non-removable). By the way, the lid is not so easy to remove. The display panel rises slightly above the rest of the case.

But the shape and location of the buttons remained the same: the round power button and the volume rocker are on the right side. The speakers are located on the front panel at the top and bottom, and another on the back at the bottom.

The main body material is inexpensive plastic. The Sony Xperia E4 smartphone is available in white and black colors (we tested the model white color). The build quality is not bad, but the removable cover creaks and clicks when you press it.

Screen - 3.5

Diagonal display Sony Xperia E4 - 5 inches. The display resolution is typically budget-friendly, 960x540 pixels, which results in a pixel density of 220 per inch. On such a screen, you can notice individual pixels. If the quality of the display is the determining criterion for you when choosing a smartphone, then we recommend that you pay attention to the Acer Liquid Jade or Philips S398 with HD displays.

Matrix type - IPS, viewing angles are average, which is good for its price. According to the results of tests, this is a fairly bright screen. The maximum measured brightness was 431 cd / m2 - this is a good indicator. The minimum brightness of the white background was 18 cd/m2, which is noticeably bright when reading in the dark. There are no “fancy” modes in the display settings, like the flagships of the company, but there is a smooth white balance setting. We also found that the display responds well to the sun: the information remains readable, despite the fact that protective covering The display is noticeably glare. The smartphone has an auto-brightness function that works quickly, but, in our opinion, in a rather narrow range of brightness changes.

As we expected, Sony phone there is no mode of operation with gloves, but the display does not collect fingerprints so actively.

Camera

The Sony Xperia E4 has 5 and 2 MP cameras. The main camera has an LED flash, autofocus and a mode to improve the detail of shadows and highlights in the frame. It detects faces and smiles, takes a series of photos by holding your finger, adds retouching effects and captures panoramas. In addition, there are fun virtual effects: virtual scenes can be superimposed on the video, for example, gnomes or walking dinosaurs.

The maximum photo resolution is 2560×1920 pixels. Moreover, in auto mode, the resolution will be lower if you do not change the aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3.

The detail of the pictures of the main camera is typically low for 5 MP (2560x1920 pixels). During the tests, we noticed that the camera shoots for quite a long time (a lot of time passes between frames), so it's better not to shoot moving objects. In addition, the quality of the photo depends on the lighting: when the lighting deteriorates, “noise” immediately appears in the pictures. Many photos are too bright or overexposed. However, the problem is partially solved in HDR mode. He works efficiently.

The 2 MP front camera shoots photos with a resolution of 1600x1200 pixels and HD video at 30 fps.

Working with text - 5.0

The Sony Xperia E4 keyboard has a lot of customization options. It supports the function of continuous text input using strokes (Swype), work with dictionaries and has several covers for the keyboard. In the settings, you can adjust auto-corrections, use your writing style (the smartphone will analyze the words you wrote in social networks and the mail client in order to use them in tips). There is also voice input, markup of additional characters and a separate key for emoticons. Switching to another language is carried out using a separate key.

You have the option to use the one-handed keyboard mode if the screen seems large to you. In it, you can move the keyboard to the right or left for comfortable one-handed typing.

In our opinion, the keyboard is thought out to the smallest detail, so we rated it highly.

Internet - 3.0

As a browser, the Sony Xperia E4 has Google Chrome. Its main feature is synchronization with the desktop version. We checked the browser - in general, it works fine, but sometimes it "slows down" on the pages. There is no multi-scaling of pages or a separate reading mode in this browser. But you can scale once to a pre-selected size - for this you need to double-click on the screen. There is also a search on the page and a traffic reduction mode.

Communications - 1.0

The set of interfaces in the Sony Xperia E4 is typical for a budget smartphone. Available on the phone: Wi-Fi (b/g/n) with WiFi mode modem, Bluetooth 4.0 low energy consumption and support for A2DP, A-GPS and GLONASS. Note that the predecessor, the Xperia E3, worked with LTE, but here there is no such possibility. We checked the operation of the interfaces - everything worked fine.

The smartphone works with Micro-SIM cards, there is a dual-SIM version of the device and a version with LTE support. There are connectors: for a headset and a simple Micro-USB 2.0 without MHL or USB OTG for connecting devices to the phone.

Multimedia - 4.6

The Sony Xperia E4 audio player supports many formats and plays MP3, FLAC, WAV files and a number of less popular formats. In tests, only AC-3 or DTS formats were not played. It's a pity, but there are no headphones included with the Xperia E4, but there is a proprietary Walkman application with good customization options, including an equalizer.

With video, everything is generally also good, but the player did not want to play MPG, FLV video and some MKV clips. The built-in video player has a number of settings, including support for subtitles.

Battery - 2.8

The Sony Xperia E4 smartphone has a 2300 mAh non-removable lithium polymer battery (recall that the Sony Xperia E3 had 2330 mAh). In our tests, the smartphone battery demonstrated good results for the budget. The device played HD video at maximum brightness for 6 hours and 15 minutes. In the music listening mode, with the screen turned off, the device was discharged in 54 hours (more than two days). In the mode of not the most intensive use (on Wi-Fi, periodic browsing, a couple of calls per day, listening to music, one movie per day and casual games), the battery lasted for 1-1.5 days.

The kit comes with a 0.85 A charger. At the same time, the smartphone takes a long time to charge: it took us about three hours to fully charge the Sony Xperia E4.

Performance - 1.7

The Sony Xperia E4 smartphone is equipped with a mid-range chipset - a quad-core Mediatek MT6582 operating at a frequency of 1.3 GHz. The transition from Qualcomm to a more budgetary MediaTek looks very strange, apparently, Sony decided to save on the budget line. The amount of RAM is 1 GB, the Mali-400MP2 accelerator is responsible for the graphics. By the standards of Android-smartphone Xperia E4 is quite fast and without brakes. With active browsing with several open pages, the device starts to "slow down", but not critically.

The Sony Xperia E4 smartphone is suitable for most applications and for undemanding games. According to the results of our synthetic tests, the smartphone occupies an average position. In games Sony Xperia E4 proved to be average. Games like Asphalt 8 will have to be played on low graphics, while Minion Rush runs smoothly. In synthetic tests, the smartphone showed results typical of a mid-range "stuffing". So, in the AnTuTu benchmark, the smartphone averaged about 19,000 points, and in 3D Mark Ice Storm Unlimited it didn’t reach 3000 a bit. The “stuffing” is far from flagship, but the smartphone works fine and allows you to run most games.

Memory - 3.5

The total amount of built-in memory in the Sony Xperia E4 is limited to 8 GB, of which 4.78 GB is available to the user. This is not much, but you can buy a memory card separately. The Sony Xperia E4 supports microSD cards up to 32 GB. At the same time, you can "hot-swap" the memory card without rebooting - just remove the cover and insert the card into the slot.

Peculiarities

Smartphone running operating system Android systems 4.4.4 with a proprietary interface from Sony: all standard applications (from SMS messages to the gallery) have been redesigned and have an original look. To date, the Sony Xperia E4 is not on the list of smartphones that will receive an update to Android 5.0, and this is unlikely to happen. The features include a removable smartphone cover in combination with a non-removable battery and a proprietary Walkman application with a good equalizer.

Sony Xperia E4 is a smartphone with a good battery, sufficient performance for basic tasks, good design and a moderate price tag. Of course, any device has its own nuances, and in a budget device, as a rule, there are even more of them, so the E4 is no exception. Without wasting a minute, let's move on to review.

Equipment

The packaging, familiar to other products of the Xperia line (thick cardboard with good printing), hides the phone itself, a charger, a Micro USB cable, and that's about it. Sony has not been seen to be generous with various bonuses for buyers before, so immediately to the appearance and ease of use.

Design

The appearance of the smartphone is simple, uncomplicated and at the same time interesting. The smartphone is quite wide, even unusually wide when compared with devices from competitive companies. However, it fits well in my fairly wide palm. Owners of narrow palms, thinking about buying, should definitely try the device live. Your impressions may be quite different than mine.

Since we are talking about the convenience and dimensions of the phone, it is worth taking a look at the size plate.

The back cover is made of plastic and covers all sides of the smartphone. On the right side are the volume keys and the power button, made in the corporate style of Omni Balance.

The buttons on the lid are just key repeaters that are located directly on the case, under the rear panel. It is clear that it is not easy to press them without the battery cover installed, and it is not necessary in general.

Surprisingly, the Japanese did not install a separate physical key to release the camera shutter. The presence of the latter has always been characteristic even for devices that could not boast of photo quality, but now politics seems to have changed course. Where? It's not clear yet. Instead, any of the volume keys is responsible for taking pictures. And what, in principle, is an option.

Below there are no elements except for the hole for attaching a lace to the device. By the way, Sony is perhaps one of the few manufacturers that still continue to equip their products with eyelets for laces. Maybe the president of the company wears his phone like this?

On the top, right in the lid, there is a hole for connecting headphones - a standard 3.5 mm output. There is nothing else here.

The Micro USB connector is located in a non-standard place - on the left side of the device. It is convenient or not - let everyone decide for himself. But a bit odd, that's for sure.

At the back is the main camera lens, and next to it is an LED flash. In the middle is the brand name of the company, and closer to the bottom there is a slot for a multimedia speaker.

The volume of the latter is average, on a noisy street, especially if the smartphone is in a bag, it costs nothing to miss an incoming call.

The back cover is removed interestingly. Anywhere along the perimeter of the sidewalls, it is enough to pick it up with a fingernail and the lid will give in. Contrary to expectations, the battery is non-removable here - it is hidden deep in the case and it will not be possible to replace it yourself without losing the warranty.

There are also slots for installing a SIM card (Micro) and a memory card. One of the recesses is tightly closed. This means that in nature it is found and even sold with us, a two-sim variation of the phone - Sony Xperia E4 Dual. Later we will definitely talk about the modifications existing on the market, since there are enough of them in stock.

Located above the display standard set elements: front camera, earpiece, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor. Brightness adjustment is, in general, correct.

The hole for the speaker is located symmetrically to the same slot, which is already under the screen. There is a spoken microphone here.

The manufacturer successfully beat this moment and did not make additional holes around the perimeter of the case. The touch system control keys are part of the software interface, so it is convenient to keep the smartphone in landscape orientation when playing games or watching videos - there are no accidental clicks.

The display itself is covered with protective glass. There may be an oleophobic coating, but it does not fight the accumulation of fingerprints in the best way. When the screen of the device is in the bright sun, greasy fingerprints make it difficult to see the details of the interface - you have to hide the device in the shade.

Around the display frame there is a small edging that protrudes slightly above the body. It is plastic and quite sharp to the touch, but fortunately it does not cause any inconvenience.

Two color variations will be available in our market: black and white. Of course, you won’t get around much, but there are the most popular colors - classics in a word.

Display

The manufacturer installed a screen with a diagonal of 5 inches and a resolution of 960 x 540 in the smartphone. The density of dots per square inch does not exceed 220 ppi. This, of course, is not much, so it is quite easy to distinguish individual pixels. You don't need special vision to do this.

Viewing angles are good. The image does not invert, does not fade and remains fully readable at any angle. It is clear that the brightness drops, but this is typical of all liquid crystal screens.

Specifications Sony Xperia E4 (E2105):

  • 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6582 processor (4 cores)
  • video chip Mali-400 MP2
  • RAM 1 GB
  • built-in storage 8 GB (actually available 4.78 GB)
  • support for Micro SD memory cards (up to 32 GB)
  • display 5'' (TFT) 960 x 540 pixels, Multitouch (up to 4 simultaneous touches)
  • front-camera
  • main camera 5 megapixels
  • sensors: accelerometer, light and proximity sensor
  • battery 2300 mAh
  • connectors: 3.5 mm, Micro USB (2.0)
  • OS Android 4.4.4

Wireless interfaces:

  • GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz, UMTS HSPA+ 900, 2100
  • Wi-Fi (b/g/n/), Bluetooth 4.1

The system on a chip (SoC) MediaTek MT6582 is used as the “brains” here. It is based on a relatively old (late 2013) processor with four Cortex-A7 cores. The chip is produced based on the 28-nm process technology and includes the Mali-400 MP2 video accelerator with an operating frequency of up to 500 MHz.

UMTS / HSPA + (3G) modules, wireless interfaces Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS are built directly into the SoC. This explains the lack of 4G support - this requires a different processor, which is installed in a more advanced version of the Xperia E4g.

Our hero does not shine with performance. You can play modern toys only by setting the graphics settings to low. Some games may not run at all.

Quite serious brakes are observed even in the AR Effect camera mode. Virtual gnomes jump onto the screen with a long delay, and in the process of shooting they move with visible delays. You can hardly call comfortable using this feature on a smartphone.

There were no obvious and serious brakes in the system interface. Yes, the device is thoughtful and does not instantly open any installed apps, however, the proprietary shell is generally well optimized. It is comfortable to work with it when performing ordinary, not resource-intensive tasks.

At the end of the section, of course, the results of passing synthetic tests are in their rightful place.

Camera

Front camera 2 megapixels with a maximum image resolution of up to 1600 x 1200 pixels. There is no need to talk about any special mode for selfie maniacs. For video calls, the front module is quite good, but for your own portraits it is much worse.

The main photo module is represented by a 5-megapixel sensor, which is capable of taking photos at a resolution of 2560 x 1200 pixels.

The quality of the shooting can be called satisfactory. It often happens that the sensor misses exposure or focus, resulting in frames that are either blurry at the edges or overexposed in some places.

You can only deal with this by taking 3-4 shots at a time. In part, this can save the situation.

In general, what to say. Everything can be viewed in detail on the example captured on Sony camera Xperia E4 photos.

Of course, as with all other devices from the company, there are a whole bunch of different interesting shooting modes. With AR Effect, you have already met a little when describing the performance of the device and using the examples of pictures above. The most interesting scenario is Timeshift Burst. Using an example, we have described this technology in detail, but in the case of the E4, it can only work as a cool feature. Nevertheless, the initial level of photographic materials does not reach the required level.

Video smartphone can record at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 fps. With the exception of the problems described above, the quality of the videos is not bad.

Battery life

The manufacturer claims over 10 hours of talk time in 2G or 3G networks, continuous music playback for 48 hours, and video playback up to 7 hours. All this is possible thanks to a 2300 mAh non-removable battery.

In practice, the time battery life- this is the most forte devices.

E4 can work under load for a full two days. In moderate use, this figure can be improved to 3-4 days of operation without connecting to a charger.

And if you take into account the pre-installed power saving modes, then four days is not a record.

Models and prices

In our review in question about the Sony Xperia E4, also known as the E2105. More advanced is the Sony Xperia E4 or E2003. The modification is different better side due to the MediaTek MT6732 processor with a frequency of 1.5 GHz versus 1.3 GHz in the regular version, the Mali-760 MP2 video accelerator, as well as support for LTE frequencies (bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 28) . Of course, the cost of the last device is higher (from 10,490 rubles).

The modification of the E4 Dual or E2115 is no different except for the presence of a second SIM card (only 2G on the second slot). The same processor, the same video chip, and so on. The price is slightly higher and amounts to 9,990 rubles.

I hope you now have a complete picture in your head of what Sony offers to consumers in the budget range.

Outcome

Now on the market model Sony Xperia E4 Can buy for 8,990 rubles and this price can be considered quite adequate. In return, you get a regular, modern budget device that can perform almost any (see non-resource-intensive) tasks and lives on a single battery charge for a day with a little more than products from other manufacturers.

Yes, a higher resolution display could be installed here, a better camera, and also equip the device with support for LTE networks, but, following the realities of the market, it would already be something from the category of 12 - 13 thousand rubles.

However, apart from the cool and, let's say, plump design of the E4, Sony did not offer anything interesting that would distinguish the smartphone from its competitors. Yes, the device is reliable, working, the price is adequate and that's it.

The smartphone has one single competitor that beats it on all fronts (except for battery life) - Huawei Honor 4C. The latter stands out from the competition due to its very good characteristics and very affordable price. However, it was not without a fly in the ointment - it’s just not possible to buy this Chinese just like that. Read more in.

The Sony Xperia E4 smartphone was honored to be the first device of the new Xperia line with the number 4 at the beginning of 2015. The model received fairly simple characteristics, but along with them a design that is not typical of the company's past products. Sony named this appearance flagship and catchy, making it clear that future smartphones will follow the new concept (for example, the upcoming Xperia C4). In practice, we will evaluate the pros and cons of this approach in this review.

Unboxing and video review

Equipment and design

The package bundle of the smartphone is painfully familiar and ordinary: a white box, inside of which there is only a short microUSB cable for connecting to a computer or a complete 850 mAh charger, as well as documentation. An inexpensive device is not supposed to have anything more, although affordable gadgets have examples of rich kits.

Externally, the phone is a reflection of a new design concept, very different from OmniBalance, famous for its symmetry and balance of all sides and parts of the device. specific name she doesn’t have one yet, and it won’t work to call her especially original. We have a rounded case with a protruding front glass, which has already been seen in smartphones Nokia Lumia, Samsung Ativ S and, of course, Apple iPhone 6. For some reason, unlike its predecessors, Sony did not care much about the smoothness and streamlining of the front surface, equipping the E4 glass panel with strongly protruding sharp edges. This is somewhat disharmonious with the overall roundness and smoothness of the device, and also negatively affects usability - swiping from edge to edge will not cause aesthetic pleasure here. At the same time, the case itself is quite comfortable and feels comfortable in the hand. It is made of velvety white plastic (or simple matte, if we talk about black coloring) and can be easily removed, underneath there are slots for a memory card, one or two SIMs (for E4 and E4 Dual, respectively), a non-removable 2300 mAh battery and an incomprehensible origin and purpose is an oblong slot, similar to a receptacle for a small stylus. If desired, you can even put something in there and store it inside your smartphone (a couple of matches just in case, for example).

Control elements are arranged in a way familiar to Sony products, everything is accessible to any hand, except that I would like to feel the branded metal power button a little higher, and the volume keys sometimes require interception of the case. One oddity is connected with them - they are pressed very easily and unpredictably during normal use, and if you remove the cover several times, then there is a high probability that the normal functionality of the volume down key will be violated (it does not seem to be pressed and the phone adjusts the volume back and forth). In this case, all the grooves and fastenings of the cover are in place. Perhaps this is a feature of our test sample. A microphone is located under the screen, although the hole is identical to the earpiece and can be misleading, making you think that there are two speakers on the front panel at once (like older Xperias). But there is only one multimedia speaker here and it is located on the rear panel. There is also a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash located above in the center.

The screen in the Xperia E4 is simple - 5" with qHD-resolution (960x540 pixels), an inexpensive IPS-matrix with inversion when tilted, but with good viewing angles. The impression is spoiled by the presence air gap, the absence of an oleophobic layer and a protective film in the kit that can compensate for this moment. By the way, the Xperia E4g model has no air gap with a slightly smaller display and a slightly more powerful filling. From a budget device (namely, this is how the E4 was created, despite its current price tag of 10.5 thousand rubles due to currency fluctuations), one should not expect much, especially since Sony does not favor affordable devices with flagship screens. Such a display was enough for millions of happy owners of Xperia C, for example, so now, for sure, there will be those for whom this will be enough.

The phone is assembled firmly, but after several removals of the back panel, a strong creak of the left side of the case and its tangible punching were revealed. This is where the recommendation follows: when you insert a SIM card for the first time, forget about the removable cover and do not pull it once again. Water protection, familiar to many Sony smartphones, is not here.

Software

The smartphone runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat with latest version skins for Xperia Home. The set of applications is standard for inexpensive Sony Xperia (there are no display enhancers, some audio features and other things typical of flagships), except that Party Share is something new (it allows you to share various content with friends via Wi-Fi Direct). The update to Lollipop will probably be the last one after all the flagship and mid-range devices included in the update rollout roadmap. It makes no sense to talk about a typical set of Sony services and applications for the hundredth time, see the screenshots - they are quite clear and understandable.

Camera

The Sony Xperia E4 uses a 5-megapixel autofocus module as the main module and a 2-megapixel non-autofocus module for selfies as front camera. The interface is similar to older models and offers the same variety of functions and modes.

As for the quality of photos and videos, there are not enough stars from the sky, but for such a simple smartphone it is sufficient. Below you can evaluate the examples yourself.

Benchmarks and performance

The smartphone is based on the MediaTek MT6582 chipset, the processor has 4 cores and a frequency of 1.3 GHz. There is Mali-T400MP2 graphics and 1 GB of RAM. The filling, at first glance, is sufficient for most simple use cases, but the phone noticeably slows down even during the most common operations. The fact is that for some reason 1 GB of RAM is not enough for him, despite the modest qHD resolution, and in fact about 300 MB are available to the user after closing all programs. Downloading several applications from Google Play, working with several programs at the same time - all this is accompanied by tangible jerks in the interface.
