Mosquito net profile dimensions. Self-measurement and calculation of mosquito net

"Providal" systems

Firstly this will allow you to save money to pay for the measurer (even if other companies say that it is free, but nothing is free and it is clear that the measurer’s work must be paid for and paid for with your money, which is included in the price of the product)

Secondly

Your independent measurement will free our craftsmen from wasting time on the road (since the measurement itself takes 10 minutes at most), but the road to you and back can take 2 or more hours. During this time, the master will be able to install the grids we have already manufactured.

Therefore we welcome independent conduct measurements, and in order for you to measure correctly, we wrotethis page is for you.

To begin with, let us remind you that the sliding mosquito nets of the "Providal" system are installed on special guide rails attached to the glazing frame ( With internal) apartment side. Depending on their length, these runners allow mosquito net move along the length of your balcony.

Even if this is not what you need, then in this case the guides must be 2 times larger than the width of the mesh, because the mesh must move so as not to completely block access to the locking mechanism of the window sash. Otherwise, when you close the window, the latch will be behind the mosquito net.

So, if your balcony ceiling is not covered with siding, clapboard or similar materials, measuring the mosquito net will come down to 2 operations.

1. Measurement of the light opening vertically.

This is the distance from the bottom to the top rail of the frame glazing. Since the frame has several runners, so that you do not get confused about which one you need to choose when taking measurements, close all the doors. Now measure the distance between visible parts rail as shown in the picture.

If the ceiling of your balcony is sheathed and the top rail is not completely visible, measure the distance from the bottom rail to the ceiling. When you inform us of the measurement results (if you decide that our specialists will carry out the installation), be sure to

Please indicate what measurements were taken.

2. Measure the overall width of the mesh.

To do this, move the sash all the way and measure the width of the resulting opening along with the vertical parts of the sash adjacent to the opening, as shown in the figure.

Now you can place an order for the production of mosquito nets. If you want to install the net yourself, then read the rules on how to install sliding mosquito nets.

But, if you find all this tedious, call us and we will measure your windows.

It’s not worth talking about the purpose of a mosquito net once again, since everyone knows about it, but many begin to think about the advisability of installing it only when they spend a sleepless night next to blood-sucking insects or discover hordes of flies in their home. For owners of houses with old wooden windows As a rule, there are no problems with how to attach the mesh to them - most often this is done very quickly using push pins or nails that are used to nail the mesh through a bead. The situation is somewhat different if the house has metal-plastic windows and doors. The material presented in this article will help you figure out how to measure a mosquito net and how to install it.

Mesh measurements for a plastic window

In order to order a mosquito net for a plastic window, you need to measure the window opening. However, you need to think in advance about how it will be installed - inside or outside the frame. This affects not only the size of the mesh being made, but also what kind of fastening will be installed. If for the external fastening of the mesh frame it is still possible to allow small deviations in size, then for the internal fastening every millimeter is important. A small frame will not fit tightly into the opening and there will be gaps for insects, while a large one simply cannot be installed and will have to be redone.

When ordering a mesh, the manager may ask what profile your window is made of. This question puzzles many people. You can obtain this data by looking at the product passport.

You can also make a window mesh with your own hands. It is clear that it is unlikely that something similar to a factory design can be made at home, but, nevertheless, the product will turn out attractive, and most importantly, it will protect against insects. It's about about the mosquito net with Velcro. To make it you will need:

  1. Mosquito net.
  2. Self-adhesive Velcro.
  3. Threads to match the color of the mesh.
  4. Sewing machine.

If you do not have threads of the same color as the mesh, then you can choose the most suitable ones. Take small pieces of thread you have and put them on the mesh - whichever will be least noticeable, use that one.

The mesh should be slightly larger than the window clearance - 1 cm on each side should be left for the gate. If on sewing machine If you haven’t sewed before, it’s better to sew the Velcro to the mesh using a basting stitch, not forgetting about the hem - it should be under the Velcro, and then sew it on a machine. A piece of Velcro without an adhesive backing is sewn to the mesh.

You can sew the mesh manually, but then the aesthetic appearance will suffer, and it will all take much more time.

Now you need one person to attach the mesh with Velcro sewn to the window, and the second person to mark its edges on the frame with a pencil. Glue the remaining part of the self-adhesive Velcro along the marks. Now you can use it by securing the mesh in its intended place.

Mesh for swing doors

Insects enter the house not only through windows, but also through doors, be it the entrance or leading to the balcony. How to measure the mesh on the door? Just like with a window, the doorway is measured along the inside. The fact is that a mosquito net on a door is essentially another door with a net stretched over it. It just opens in the opposite direction from the main door and is held in place by magnets. For convenience, a small plastic handle is attached to it.

Newer developments are also worthy of attention. One of them is a rolled mosquito net.

This is one of the latest inventions. The folding mechanism is the same as that of roller shutters, so when raised, the mesh does not bother anyone and is practically invisible, since it is all hidden in a box located above the door.

The pleated mesh option also deserves attention.

Such a grid moves horizontally, while gathering into an accordion. Pleated fabric can become a decoration if a design is applied to it.

Pleated and rolled mesh are not easy to install yourself, so it is better to entrust measurements and installation to a specialist.

The above meshes are inconvenient to use when passing through the door frequently. In addition, if the hands are busy, it is not easy to close them, so insects still have the opportunity to freely enter the room for some time.

In this case, the most acceptable option would be a mosquito net with magnets. The principle of its operation is based on the fact that the canvas is divided into two parts, and magnets are sewn along the inner edge. Even with a slight pressure, the mesh opens, but after a person passes, the edges close again under the influence of the attractive force of the magnets. It is important to measure the length of such a mesh so that it is not only not short, but also not too long, otherwise the edges will cling to the floor and the doors will not be able to close completely.

Sliding door mesh

Nowadays you can increasingly find instead of the usual sliding doors. It is quite clear that not for everyone front door Such a mechanism is suitable, especially in apartments, but you also need to install a sliding mesh on the sliding loggia. If you do not have the skills to perform this type of work, it is better to entrust the matter to a specialist.

Typically, the cost of a mosquito net is calculated by the number of m2. If you know the dimensions of the mesh, you can approximately find out its cost in advance.

If the work is performed by a master, the final price may be 2 times higher.

This video shows how to measure and make your own mosquito net for a metal-plastic window.

Possible without the help of a measuring specialist (see note at the bottom of the article)*. To do this, you will need a tape measure and some time.

DETERMINATION OF SIZES OF MOSQUITO NETS ON Z-FASTENERS, DOORS, ROLLERS

These types of meshes are installed overlapping the frame with outside window. Finished design should fit onto the frame and completely cover the opening of the open sash. Determining the dimensions of the future mosquito net is very simple: you need to measure the total external height and width of the light opening and add the corresponding coefficient to the resulting figures:

  • mesh on z-fasteners (standard): +4 cm to height and width;
  • mosquito doors made of lightweight profile: +5 cm to height and width;
  • mosquito doors made of reinforced profile: +7 cm to height and width;
  • rolled nets (standard): +5 cm on top, +2 cm on bottom, +4 on sides;
  • rolled mesh (Italian): +4 cm on top, +3 cm on bottom, +4 on sides.

Before ordering a mosquito net, make sure that there is a required space to install it.

DETERMINING THE SIZING OF THE ROCK MOSQUITO NET

Nets of this type can only be installed on windows with double-glazed windows. The structure is mounted inside the recess between the protrusions. The external bevel of the frame should not be too rounded or strong.
To determine the dimensions of the mosquito net, it is necessary to measure the width of the light opening between the outer protrusions on the frame and subtract one centimeter from the obtained data. For example, if the height according to the measurement results is 140 cm, the width is 40 cm, then the mesh size is 139 cm and 39 cm. When the mesh is installed, there should be a 5 mm gap around its perimeter for a special sealing brush.

WHEN IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO INSTALL A MOSQUITO NET

THERE IS A GRILL INSTALLED ON THE WINDOW

In the case where the grille is installed very close to the window frame (up to 6 cm), it will be possible to install only a rod mosquito net without any problems. Installing the mesh on z-mounts will cause some inconvenience. You will most likely have to abandon the rolled mosquito net, since its box is 4-6 cm deep and may simply not fit in the space between the grille and the window.

FRAME CLOSED WITH CONCRETE QUARTER

On windows where the distances required for installing mosquito nets are covered by a concrete quarter of the opening, only a rod net can be installed.

SINGLE LEAF RECOVERED WINDOW WITH EXTERNAL WALLS

On single-hung windows recessed into the wall, you can install any type of mesh, except mesh with z-fasteners.

OLD WOODEN JOINERY WINDOWS

Due to the peculiarities of such windows, installation of a rod mosquito net, as well as a net on z-fasteners, is impossible. Installing a roll mesh is very difficult to implement, but still feasible. However, this costs more than installing mosquito nets on other windows.

The KliKa company is in no way responsible for self-measurement by the customer.
Phone managers do not teach or explain, nor do they advise how to correctly measure a future mosquito net.
There are always many measurement nuances that cannot be discussed and taken into account over the phone!

Many people, when installing plastic windows, try to save money on mosquito nets, especially if the installation is carried out in the fall. Breakages of the frame of the existing product also occur. In any case, when the period of insect activity begins, the need arises to purchase a life-saving barrier.

Mosquitoes are rarely standardized in size, since the sizes of installed plastic windows are individual. For this reason, the following solutions to the problem are possible:

  1. Order a mosquito net from the company where the windows were ordered.
  2. Call an engineer to take measurements, which will take some time and require additional costs.
  3. Measure the mosquito net for a plastic window yourself.

The most convenient option is to measure yourself.

Types of mosquito net fastenings

Structurally, mosquito nets have a simple structure: a fiberglass net with a 1 mm mesh, fixed on an aluminum frame. But these products differ in the installation method.

The mesh attachment may vary depending on the manufacturer and is of the following types:

  • Plunger. The most popular type of fastening, which is considered the most durable and effective. The frame of the mosquito net is fixed using spring-loaded pins, which ensure reliable and tight fixation of the mosquito.
  • Z-shaped. This type is considered the second most popular. In this case, the mosquito is attached to the window frame using special metal brackets that ensure a tight fit. The fastenings are quite secure, but over time they can become loose, which will lead to the appearance of cracks.
  • "Pockets" Such fasteners are used quite rarely, since they do not ensure a tight fit of the mesh to the window frame. In this case, measurements are performed with a reserve.

Measurements for grids with plunger fastening

Installation of such a mesh is possible if the outer bevel of the window frame is not rounded or too high angle tilt, otherwise the groove for the pin will not provide reliable fixation of the product.

To measure the window you will need a tape measure. Need to open window sash and measure the light opening. The measurement is taken along the edge of the seal, which is installed on all plastic windows. Results must be recorded to the nearest millimeter. It is necessary to subtract 6 mm from the resulting width and height to provide enough space for installing the mosquito frame.

Measurements for z-mount meshes

Calculation of dimensions for this type of mesh is carried out similarly to the previous one, but 20 millimeters must be added to the obtained measurement results.

When using such nets, you need to take into account that it is mounted outside the window, therefore, there must be enough space for installation. Difficulties during installation can be caused by nearby slopes or window grilles mounted near the window. In such cases, it is recommended to use a mesh with a plunger attachment.

Measurements for nets with fastening in “pockets”

Earlier this type fastenings were the most common, however, they were replaced by more effective methods fasteners Plastic “pockets” are mounted on the outside of the window at the corners of the light opening. Such fasteners are not able to ensure a tight fit of the mesh to the window frame, and therefore are not recommended for use.

If there is still a need to use this particular fastener, then the opening is measured in the same way as in the case of a z-fastener.

Like many window accessories, mosquito nets are not always purchased together with plastic windows and installed on them at the same time as installation. If the purchase of windows occurs during the cold season, then owners often prefer to save money by postponing the purchase of screens until the “better” warmer times. In principle, this is quite reasonable, if not for one “but” - mosquito nets are not produced on a regular basis and do not have standard dimensions. Each mesh must be ordered individually, providing the manufacturer with the exact dimensions of the window structures.

When purchasing a mesh separately from a window, you can proceed in three different ways:

  • Contact the company that manufactured and installed your windows to make an accessory - for some time, companies keep drawings of completed orders, so there is a chance that they have retained the dimensions of your windows.
  • Inviting a measuring specialist to take your measurements again - the service costs money, and besides, the specialist does not always arrive at a convenient time.
  • Measuring the window dimensions yourself is the most convenient and inexpensive option, but it requires certain knowledge, which we will discuss in more detail.

What types of meshes are there?

Most often, frame-type mosquito nets are installed on the outside of standard plastic windows. The design of these nets provides for the presence of a frame - aluminum frame, to which a stack of fiberglass material is attached. The frame thickness is 10*25 mm, and the cell size does not exceed 1 mm.

In turn, frame mosquito nets are attached to windows in different ways and are divided into three types: plunger, pocket and Z-type nets. Before taking dimensions to make the mesh, it is necessary to determine how it will be attached to the base.

Features of different types of fastenings

Plunger mount It is considered the most reliable and durable for long-term installation of mesh. The mesh frame is attached to window frame using special pins with springs that ensure tight pressing of the structure. Nets attached in this way look aesthetically pleasing and neat.

Pocket mount– is used extremely rarely, as it does not press the mesh tightly enough to the window and leaves large gaps through which insects can enter the room. When choosing this fastening method, the frame with the mesh is made slightly larger than the size of the glass unit and its edges are tucked into special plastic “pockets” located in the corners of the window frame.

Z-type mount- along with the plunger, a common option for installing mosquito nets, ensuring a good fit to the window. Frame construction in this case, it is held in place by special metal brackets located close to the window seal. Z-shaped fastenings must be regularly tightened, otherwise they will become loose and noticeable gaps will appear between the window and the mesh.

When choosing a plunger or Z-shaped fastening, the dimensions of the stacks can be easily determined independently, but it is better to entrust the calculation of the dimensions of the mesh with a pocket fastening to a specialist.

How to take measurements for a Z-bar mesh

Z-bar mesh

In order to independently measure the dimensions of a mosquito net with any type of fastening, you need to acquire a construction tape measure.

When making a structure with Z-fastenings, it is necessary to determine what width and height the window opening has. Parameters must be determined when open sash, focusing on the edges of the seal laid along the perimeter of the frame. It is important to measure the height and width as accurately as possible and record the result in millimeters.

The width and height are calculated using the following formulas:

  • Mesh height = opening h (mm) + 20 mm.
  • Mesh width = b opening (mm) + 20 mm.

You also need to find out whether the window frame is deep enough to install the mesh. On the sash side, the frame should not extend far beyond the quarter, and the slopes of the window itself should be located in close proximity to the edge. If the characteristics of the window do not allow installing a mosquito net with Z-fastenings on it, then order a product with plunger fastenings.

How to take dimensions for a mesh with plunger fastening

The only limitation for installing insect nets on plastic windows plungers is a rounded bevel of the sash frame with outside or its angle of inclination is too strong. Both options are unacceptable for fastening with pins for the reason that their shape does not allow the elements to be pressed tightly against each other.

To make a mesh with a plunger fastening, the height and width of the opening are measured according to the same principle as in the case of Z-fasteners. However, further, millimeters are not added to the dimensions, but subtracted - 6 mm each. from each side. This is done so that there is space left for the sealing brushes, which are fixed along the edge of the mosquito net frame. The reduced dimensions are communicated to the company that will manufacture the mosquito accessory.

Subtleties that are important to know when placing an order

Mosquito frame nets are installed only on plastic hinged windows that open inward. For other designs, there are rolled, sliding, Velcro, pleated, etc. nets.

The measurement accuracy must be high - up to a millimeter. Values can only be rounded for meshes with Z-fastenings and only upwards. If such a grid extends slightly beyond the level of the beginning of the frame on the street side, it will be almost unnoticeable. Its main task is to completely close the window opening and prevent insects and debris from entering the room.

In principle, there should be no difficulties in measuring the dimensions of a window to install a mosquito net. However, if you misunderstand something, or are not sure that you understood correctly, watch one of the video instructions posted on our website.
