Design and research work by Fyodor Yastrebov "Can a person live without feelings?" - My files - File directory - Elementary school teacher.

We are different, but we are kept by God, Everyone has their own Angel and fate, We are touchy and vulnerable From rude words, from envy and evil. It happens that feelings disappear, The soul is empty, and only the pain of loss ... From kind words, all feelings come to life The pain subsides - I am glad of life again. And life goes on, putting everything in its place, But you can’t always live ruffled. May good feelings not leave us, May the soul be filled with kindness!
A person cannot live without feeling, After all, this is a value for his soul, But if there is no feeling, that soul is empty, And there is neither warmth nor kindness in it. Only kind words the pain is taken away, - And warm words are important for everyone, Responsiveness, as help, comes to us, Good feelings are healers of the soul.
Feelings are the greatest gift to a person, an integral part of his personality. In society, true feelings have always been valued and valued. They adorn the person himself and bring joy to others. The American psychologist K. Izard identifies 10 fundamental emotions: interest, joy, surprise, grief (suffering), anger, disgust, contempt, fear, shame and guilt (repentance).
Excitement - nervous excitement, intense anxiety caused by smth. (fear, joy, expectation, etc.).
Surprise is a short-term, quickly passing reaction to a sudden, unexpected event. Described as a "reset" state in which the mind is cleared of thoughts for a fraction of a second.
Shame is a feeling that arises in a person when he commits acts that are contrary to the requirements of morality, degrading the dignity of the individual. The content of actions that evoke S.'s feelings is of a socio-historical nature and depends on the evolution of moral norms. S. is experienced as painful anxiety, dissatisfaction with oneself, condemnation of one's behavior, regret about a perfect act. S. can be experienced with the unworthy behavior of other people, especially relatives. S.'s feeling also arises when remembering a humiliating act committed in the past. The experience of S. may have distinct bodily symptoms - reddening of the face, lowering of the eyes, etc.
Joy is an inner feeling of contentment, pleasure and happiness
Fear is an internal state caused by a threatening real or perceived disaster.
Anger is a sharp and strong negative feeling; irritable-hostile state.

Introduction

Ordinary weekday morning in the city apartment building. Residents rush to work, to work, to school. They have a busy day ahead, a night behind them. Someone well rested and gained strength. Someone had a crying baby or a toothache. Some meet the day with interest, others with anxiety or despondency. Opening the entrance door, they all see a familiar courtyard... But do they really see the same thing at that moment? One person who wakes up cheerful and cheerful will notice the gentle sun, his sleepy neighbor - autumn mud, the child - a striped cat, and his mother - a collapsed step, to which his son's attention should be paid. Each of them sees what seems to him the most important, or, more precisely, what the emotional state directs his gaze to - joy, irritation, curiosity, concern.

Every moment of our existence, we are in some emotional state. It significantly affects everything that and how we do, what we think about, what we see or, conversely, do not notice. Every our judgment about the world around us is saturated with emotions and feelings.

IWORLD OF SENSES

  1. Soul Language

Emotions are the language of our inner peace. They tell us what significance those objects, events, relationships with people have for us, which at the given moment are in the field of our attention. A person only imagines a situation, and emotions already determine it as desirable or unpleasant.

  1. From emotions to feelings

As a rule, emotions and feelings are usually separated. Emotions arise immediately and change very quickly. Feelings do not appear immediately, and they are longer. Feeling can accompany us long years. It can be a feeling of love, trust in the world, self-confidence, or, on the contrary, hatred, rejection.

  1. Types of emotions and feelings

Scientists identify 10 basic emotions :joy, interest (excitement), surprise, grief (suffering), anger, disgust, contempt, fear, shame and guilt (repentance).

Joy - an inner feeling of satisfaction, pleasure and happiness.

Excitement - nervous excitement, strong anxiety caused by something (fear, joy, expectation, etc.).

Astonishment is a short-term, quickly passing reaction to a sudden, unexpected event.

Shame - a feeling that arises in a person when he performs actions that contradict the requirements of morality, norms of behavior.

Fear - an internal state due to a threatening real or perceived disaster

Anger - a sharp and strong negative feeling; irritable-hostile state.

In psychology, it is customary to distinguish three kinds of feelings : moral, intellectual and aesthetic.

Moral (ethical) feelings - compassion and conscience, love and affection. They regulate a person's behavior, determining his actions.

Intellectual Feelings - curiosity, surprise, joy from gaining knowledge and experience.

aesthetic feelings from pleasure to disgust. They are manifested in artistic assessments and tastes.

Emotions largely determine our perception of the environment. In joy, we see the world through rose-colored glasses and find harmony everywhere. In grief, everything appears to us in a gloomy light. In anger, it seems that there are only obstacles and obstacles around. In fear, the most ordinary things become frightening.

IIEMOTION MANAGEMENT

2.1. Emotions as a source of energy

Humans are by nature primarily emotional beings. Even learning is most effective when it comes through experience.

Emotions increase a person's capabilities, as if connecting additional sources of energy. Both positive and some negative experiences have this ability: a tired worker can feel a surge of strength and work fruitfully for some more time both from sudden joy and from great anger.

Conversely, a person who often experiences anxiety, fear, runs the risk of falling into stress. This is manifested in a change in general well-being, in a deterioration in health. Reduce stress Creative skills person and lead to the fact that his activity becomes less successful.

2.2. How to manage your mood

A joyful day, a bright state of mind, low spirits, quiet sadness... All this is a mood that can be good and bad, calm and irritated, upbeat and decadent.

It is very important to be aware of your mood. It signals what is happening in the depths of the soul, which is preferable for it. Given this, it is easier to plan your time.

1. Can a person live without feelings? This question sooner or later arises in every person. Is it worth replacing emotions with reason? In the world you can find thousands of people who believe that life is worth living, including common sense, because it's calmer and more stable. Others, on the contrary, cannot imagine their lives without constant bright outbursts of emotions. As always, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Let's find out how to try to balance these two opposites: rationality and emotionality? Every person tends to fear something and doubt something. Cold reason often “rescues” us: it protects us from tragedies, helps us comprehend difficult situations and come to a certain conclusion. Life without feelings saves us from disappointment, but it also does not allow us to sincerely rejoice. Can a person live without feelings? Definitely - it can't. That's why we are human beings to show emotions.
Can a person live without feelings? We are not robots, each of us is constantly experiencing a variety of emotions. Reason is given to people so that they can show emotions. Anger, joy, love, fear, sadness - who does not know all these feelings? The characteristics of human feelings are very broad and multifaceted. It's just that people show them differently. Someone immediately splashes out all their joy or anger on others, while someone hides their emotions very deeply. We have become afraid to show our feelings even to the closest people. Very often, in pursuit of a prosperous life, we forget about our emotional state. Many people really try to hide their feelings as far as possible. In modern society, it is believed that the ability to show emotions is a sign of weakness. A person who has feelings will always be more vulnerable than a person who has everything built on the calculation. But at the same time, an emotional person can be happier than a rationalist.

2. Creative people are the most emotional. Some of the artists prefer to live "walking high" with "open wide eyes and soul." And some - successfully sublimate the feelings of a person in the works of painting. For example, let's look at one of these paintings that describe such emotions.
Example 1. V. Vasnetsov, "Alyonushka" This Russian fairy tale is familiar to many children from childhood. The disobedient Ivanushka drank water from a puddle and became a kid. His sister Alyonushka warns of what may happen, but her brother does not heed her. When this happens to Ivan, the sister experiences feelings of grief, hopelessness, despair, grief and sadness. In the picture, she is depicted by the pond on a “combustible” stone. Sheltered from human eyes, the girl experiences a complex range of emotions masterfully shown by the artist.

Example 2. K. Bryullov, "Horsewoman" Human feelings in paintings can be expressed in different ways. Bryullov's painting depicts a young beauty riding a horse to the veranda of a house. She is greeted by dogs and a little girl. The whole picture is imbued with emotions: a sense of joy of meeting, admiration for the festive diversity and adoration of life in its brightest manifestations of beauty and grace.

Example 3.I. Aivazovsky, "The Ninth Wave" Human feelings in paintings can be expressed through the depiction of natural phenomena. So, in the picture of Aivazovsky we see a feeling of strength, power and power of nature. At the same time, the realization of the insignificance of everything human before the elements comes to mind. The artist embodies such a complex storm of feelings in this work.

3. We are used to the fact that when it comes to emotions, ranging from deep sadness to boundless joy, they mean a person. It would seem, what other creature can so coolly reflect their feelings outwardly. Well, not only people really have this ability - animals are also endowed with it. It seems unreal, but just look at the variety of expressions on their "faces".
The emotions of animals include both surprise, and sadness, and joy, and experience, and modesty, and in general a complete set, so similar to ours. There is even a special difference in favor of our smaller brothers - their faces look so cute when they try to depict something.

This essay is a continuation of the previous one about the message "Don't Feel"
There were interesting discussions in the comments, and I decided to reveal the topic in more detail.

Surely you have come across the opinion that:
“Is it really necessary to have feelings? Or are they just problems?
"I'm safer and calmer without feelings"
"I'd rather be insensitive than suffer like this"

Indeed, when a person finds himself in a situation where feelings are too strong and unbearable, or when it is not safe to express this or that feeling, especially if this situation lasts for a long time, he may decide not to feel.
Very often, such a decision is made precisely in childhood - when the child finds himself in an emotionally unbearable situation, or when this or that feeling is forbidden in the parental home (in the first part there was a description of the exercise "You run into the parental home")

Therefore, today we will talk about why feelings are needed and how you can learn to feel again.

About emotions and feelings
It is customary to use both the word "emotion" and the word "feeling". Are these concepts different?

Emotions and feelings differ in time and depth.
Emotions are situational, they arise and pass quickly
Feelings are long and deep.

For example:
You can love a person (this feeling, it lasts a long time)
And right now you can feel anger towards this person (this is an emotion)

Basic emotions and feelings
In psychology, basic emotions / feelings are distinguished - which are inherent in people of different levels of development and different cultures.
AT different directions the list is slightly different.

For example, in transactional analysis, 4 basic emotions are distinguished:
joy
fear
anger
sadness

By the way, if you look at animals, then animals can also experience these emotions. A cat or a dog can be happy, afraid, angry or sad.

There is another list of 7 basic emotions
Interest
Joy
sadness
Anger (anger)
Fear
Disgust
Astonishment

Other emotions and feelings are "composite", are based on basic emotions, as well as thoughts, beliefs, assessments, and so on.
For example, feelings of shame or guilt - may be based on fear of rejection, assessments "I'm bad, something is wrong with me, I'm doing wrong", beliefs "if I'm bad/do this, then I will be rejected", and thoughts “I urgently need to correct myself / my actions”

Who controls the senses
Feelings and emotions are not directly controlled by consciousness.
They arise as a response to a particular life situation, when needs are satisfied or not satisfied.

What exactly the feeling will arise depends on the characteristics of the person himself.
In the same situation, one person can be scared, and the second angry.
This may depend on innate characteristics, as well as on decisions made in childhood - a person could decide that it was impossible to be angry and defend oneself, it would be safer to hide and run away.
In childhood, the child "learns" from his parents - in what situations you can feel this or that. For example, one may learn to feel guilty or suffer because older members of the family have done so, sometimes for many generations.

What are feelings for, and isn't it easier to do without them

1. To feel alive. I have repeatedly heard from people who repress and forbid their feelings that they feel like robots, people-functions - who simply perform certain actions, and life seems to pass by.
2. To feel the joy of life. If a person forbids himself to be angry or sad, then the range of feelings decreases, and he ceases to experience joy and happiness. Life becomes gray and bland, tasteless.
3. Feelings and emotions are important signals. They indicate that an important need is not being met and something is going wrong.

Living without feelings and emotions is like traveling through an unfamiliar city with your eyes closed.. Theoretically, it is possible to travel from point A to point B. But there is no fullness of impressions, there is no joy from what he saw, and you can get lost and go in the wrong place. In addition, you can miss something important or not notice the danger.

What to do, how to learn to feel again

Method 1. Acceptance and awareness
Do not fight with emotions and feelings. If they exist, then they are needed for something (even if at the level of consciousness it is not clear what for now)
Instead of giving an assessment (right or wrong, good or bad emotion-feeling) - just let them be.
Give the emotions-feelings a place and a time, observe them with acceptance, allow yourself to be aware and feel them.
Emotions and feelings are usually "reflected" in the body - as unpleasant sensations, tension. Most often in the face, arms, torso.
You can observe these sensations, and your emotions and feelings, without judging them in any way.

Here it is important not to run away to do something immediately, as emotions-feelings arose, but to stay with them for a while, allow yourself to feel and live them.
While you are doing this, an understanding may just come of what your need is associated with these emotions-feelings.

I usually show my clients this way of observing:
1. Notice that there is an emotion-feeling. If possible, name it. For example, "I'm feeling anxious right now."
2. Pay attention to where the emotion-feeling is reflected in the body
3. Consciously observe it, directing attention to the area of the body where this emotion-feeling is reflected.
4. You can metaphorically direct your breath to this area of the body. Focusing on your breath helps you stay in the process and stay aware.
(I developed this method from the methods of Ericksonian hypnosis, psychosynthesis, body-oriented therapy and the direction of mindfulness)

When you stop fighting with your emotions and feelings, you establish good contact with them.
If this is a short-lived emotion, then by observing and feeling, you can live it completely, and it will go away, making room for something else.
If this is a long-term feeling that occurs regularly, then you can understand what it indicates and find new options for yourself.

Method 2. Drawing and art therapy
You can draw your feelings. It will also be about accepting and experiencing feelings.
It's very easy to do this:
You can draw on a sheet - A4 format is well suited
Or you can draw in a circle (mandala)

From the materials you can take what is at hand: pencils, pastels, paints. Felt-tip pens and colored pens are not very good, but if there is nothing, then you can use them. You can even use a single-color pen or a simple pencil, if there is nothing else, but you want to express your feelings right now.

Choose a time-place where no one will distract you for 5-10 minutes, and draw your feeling on paper. It is better if it is an abstract drawing (without specific objects, symbols and forms) - color spots, strokes, lines.

The material also matters.
For example, my client drew anger at her parents with colored pastels. She said that she wanted to press very hard on the pastel, and in the process the pastel pencils often broke. And it also helped her express her feelings.

After you have drawn, you can tear the sheet and throw away the scraps, and symbolically put your feelings into this action in order to react to them.

What to do if feelings flood
The paradox is that if you fight these feelings and forbid them to yourself, then the flooding will happen even faster.
When you observe your feelings or draw them, you disidentify with them to some extent, stop completely immersing yourself in them. Because there is one part of you that draws or feels, and the second part that observes and realizes.
If you try to stop the “objectionable” feeling, then an internal conflict unwinds and the tension only grows from this. You lose awareness, become a direct participant in the conflict, begin to scold yourself for the “wrong” feeling, fight with yourself, evaluate your feeling and yourself as “wrong, inappropriate” - and from this you plunge into experiences even more. For example, you may feel guilty about experiencing the wrong, inappropriate feeling, which further worsens the condition.

I invite you to discuss in the comments!

A person with an absolutely healthy psyche lives in a colorful emotional world, passing through himself, like a sponge, a lot of life situations. However, completelya healthy person is practically nonsense, therefore, each of us, to one degree or another, is subject to various experiences, mental anguish and fixation on some kind of unpleasant event, giving it too much attention and strength.

However, there are those who feel many emotions too weakly, and some inner sensations cannot be realized at all. They are not subject to any disease or psychological disorder. A condition in which a person finds it difficult to identify their emotions is called alexithymia. When asked about how a person feels, answers are given, such as "headache" (description physical sensations), “I am pondering the answer” (manifestation logical thinking) or “I feel good / feel bad” (assessment of my condition). Sometimes, the person may even respond that they don't feel anything.

Alexithymia can appear as a result of a long painful experience that has traumatized the psyche over many years. For example, if a person grew up in a dysfunctional environment, and in childhood he was regularly subjected to physical violence by parents and peers. The only possible protection for the psyche, in this case, is to ignore the pain. Turns on defense mechanism and the child begins to gradually suppress all the emotions and feelings that he experiences during the beating. However, such a mental mechanism gradually becomes the main type of reaction, which in a different situation remains the same “inhibited”.

The second common cause of alexithymia is a lack of emotion learning in early years life. Consider this situation: a child has fallen and goes into hysterics. The parent asks “Why are you crying? Hit hard? Are you in pain?" Soon the child calms down, because the adult understood his disorder correctly and even explained why he was so upset. But if instead the parent says something like “There is nothing to roar about!”, the child experiences a discordance in internal sensations and external assessment. As a result, certain strong emotions will be perceived incorrectly and even frighten, and the developed mechanisms of the psyche will try to suppress them.

Getting rid of alexithymia requires a lot of time and work with yourself. Feelings need to be known gradually. It’s worth starting with observing your body, because emotions are still flowing in you, even if you are not aware of them. But the body will definitely give its reaction to the emotional state: clenched fists, twitching eyes, nervous twitching of the leg - all this is a physiological reaction to your internal processes. It will also be useful to communicate more with those for whom the manifestation and designation of emotions is not difficult. So you will unconsciously learn from others. However, it is worth remembering that in the process of manifesting hidden emotions, all the negativity that has been accumulating inside for a long time will be the first to break through to the surface. Therefore, if you have embarked on the path of self-knowledge, be patient.
