Lada XRAY (Lada X-Ray) is the second after revolutionary new product from AvtoVAZ and in fact is not such a Russian car. The fact is that the engines for this model were borrowed from Nissan, and the transmission from Renault. And in general, out of 1800 parts used in the car, only 500 of them are original, and the level of localization of the model is no more than 50%. Despite this, the Lada XRAY, which debuted a couple of years ago on the domestic market, is already significantly ahead of its progenitor, the Renault Sandero Stepway, whose sales started much earlier. But let’s try to figure it out why the Lada is loved more than a foreign car now.

Some facts

The start of sales of Lada XRAY was officially announced in February 2016. If you do not take into account the Lada Vesta SW Сross, this model is the most expensive car from Tolyatti, but even this fact did not prevent it from becoming one of the leaders in sales among domestic cars - in 2017 more than 33,000 copies were sold in Russia alone. The hatchback was built on the B0 platform borrowed from the Renault-Nissan alliance. In addition to the Lada XRAY and Sandero, such popular models as Logan, Duster and Captur are also based on it, despite this, in appearance the car does not have any similarities with its platform counterparts.

Main advantages of Lada XRAY

Despite the generally successful design, there is a part of the body that has received a lot of criticism not only from journalists, but also from car enthusiasts. Most of all, everyone dislikes the rear of the car because of the unfortunate shape of the rear lights. To summarize, we can state the fact that AvtoVAZ engineers realized that even for little money the consumer wants to get a beautiful car, and not a shapeless “trough”.

Another important advantage is the car’s ground clearance, which on standard tires is an impressive 195 mm. And even though it is 5 mm smaller under the steel engine protection, this ground clearance still allows you to confidently move beyond asphalt roads, and this is important for motorists in most CIS countries. Despite the impressive ground clearance and similarity to a crossover, a protective plastic body kit and all-wheel drive are not provided for the X-Ray, but you should not be upset, since a new XRAY Cross is expected on the market in the near future, which will be devoid of these shortcomings. How the car’s characteristics will change is still unknown, but drawing an analogy with the Vesta, which was raised by 25 mm with a similar upgrade, we can assume that the off-road capabilities of the new product will improve and it will be on par with such compact crossovers as the Opel Mokka.

The suspension of the Lada XRAY was borrowed from the related Sandero Stepway, which worked well in our operating conditions, and after adaptation to the Russian brand it became even more collected without losing energy intensity. Also, the advantages of the Lada XRAY over its competitors include an impressive range of available options. Although the basic configuration lacks air conditioning, which is certainly a significant disadvantage, it is well equipped in terms of safety. The base is equipped with a stabilization system, two airbags and the Era-Glonass system. More expensive trim levels are equipped with navigation with a traffic jam function, a rear view camera, albeit single-zone, but still climate control, cruise control with a speed limit function, 17-inch alloy wheels and illuminated entry/exit points in the doors. In an exclusive version, a background LED interior suspension and combined seat upholstery made of eco-leather and Alcantara are installed.

I would also like to note the convenient multimedia system, which has a clear interface and good performance, clear navigation and a fairly high-quality rear view camera. In addition, many consumers like the operation of an audio system with an automatic sound correction function. The high level of noise insulation also contributes to the sound quality of the acoustics, which few owners would dare to criticize. But, nevertheless, it is worth noting that Russian engineers still have something to work on in this direction.

Another indisputable plus is a large selection of available configurations and a reasonable price tag - the Lada XRAY price list includes 15 different modifications designed to suit any budget. So, for example, the poorest configuration with a 1.6 naturally aspirated petrol (106 hp) and a manual gearbox will cost almost 8,500 USD. But for the top-end configuration with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine (122 hp) and a robotic transmission, you will have to pay almost 14,000 USD.

The main problem of this box is the indecently short clutch life. The manufacturer, knowing about the problem, released a reinforced unit, but how much more reliable it will be, time will tell, since cars with such a clutch still have very little mileage to say that it is truly reliable. But the fact that the unit began to work more stable is a fact - up to 10,000 km of run, jerks are not observed and this is already progress. A less significant drawback of the gearbox is slow gear shifting, especially when moving from first to second and from second to third gear. However, AvtoVAZ engineers promise to solve this problem as well - an updated version of the unit (2.0) is expected to be released, which will reduce gear shift time by 30%. Time will tell how it will be, but there is a fear that such an improvement will provoke more accelerated wear of the clutch.

Other shortcomings include an inconvenient pedal assembly. Many owners note that it feels quite cramped in the area of ​​the gas and brake pedals. There are also complaints about visibility due to the wide A-pillars, but in fairness I would like to say that this drawback is inherent in many modern cars of European and Asian production, since such a design has a positive effect on the safety of the driver and passengers. Despite the fact that the Lada XRAY is positioned and looks like a comfortable family car, the volume of interior space is not as much as we would like. And if there is, in principle, enough space for the driver and front passenger, there is frankly not enough space in the gallery.

The hinges, which ensure the transmission of equal angular velocities, work in conjunction with the entire suspension, and it, in turn, has a “habit” of finding itself in “indecent” conditions.

But these days I managed to read a lot about the car, watch videos, etc.

Of course, there were other models in mind, but I realized that for this money it was impossible to count on something better.

Hello everyone. Our XRAY sale started on February 14th. I went to a car dealership. I wanted to try a hatch with a 1.8-liter engine, but this was not available, but the managers offered it with a 110-horsepower Nissan engine, and I agreed. Still, this unit has been tested for years, in 1.8 it’s new... I paid 120,000 rubles in advance, and after 3 days I drove it out of the dealer with a new car!

I’ll say right away that I liked the interior, especially comfortable in the front. It’s a bit cramped in the back, of course, and there’s definitely nothing for three people to do there, but two people will travel quite tolerably. I hadn’t really ridden a manual before, but I liked the clutch pedal - light and informative, it already grips at 1/3 of the stroke. The engine is not bad, although during the break-in I ran it at more than 3,000 rpm. didn't twist it. But this is enough for 110 km/h, and it accelerates decently at that speed, even going down to 4th gear is not always necessary. It also unwinds normally. The noise is also at the level, I deliberately turned off the music and listened closely. Very worthy for this class!

Consumption is small, the average shows 6.3 liters. But visibility is not so great - the A-pillars block it. Otherwise everything is fine. The rain sensor works as expected, the brushes do not creak, the climate control is 5+, and the mirrors remain clean in the rain. Handling is good, there is almost no roll in corners, it stands well in a straight line, but at zero the steering wheel is empty.

When choosing, there were other candidates - Rio, Solaris, Polo, Sid. But either they didn’t like it, or the price wasn’t right.

I was choosing between XRAY and Sandero. Still leaned towards X Ray. It also has a more powerful engine, and it’s cheaper. I looked at a bunch of reviews where they say that the hatchback tilts and is uncomfortable to sit in - this is not true. With my 185 cm, I easily find a comfortable fit. But the armrest and steering wheel reach adjustment are really lacking. It is also inconvenient to warm up without an engine temperature sensor. And don’t listen to those who say that your feet touch the neighboring pedals. I'm size 45 and everything is ok!

  3. We tried to update the navigation maps in the normal manner, but nothing worked. You need to change the name avtovaz to renault in multimedia (in the brand file);

  6. The contact between the GPS module antenna and multimedia is poor;
  7. It feels like the instruction manual was written so crookedly on purpose. Some points are completely impossible to understand. For example, how to lock a car without a battery in the remote control.

A few days ago I also became the owner of a new AvtoVAZ model. To be honest, there were many options. We needed a new car for our family. First I tested Vesta, and then X-Ray. I immediately chose a hatchback!))) It has more ground clearance, better sound insulation, and a good trunk. I’m not tall myself (178 cm), so there’s plenty of room for me and my beloved. At first we wanted it in Fresh color, but it didn’t work out. The same thing happened with the top version on the robot. In the end, the dealer offered the Top Prestige package and we agreed. We ordered the car on June 2, on the 6th it was already in the showroom, and on the 9th we received the title.

Briefly about Lada:

  1. There are no complaints about the engine, it pulls great.
  2. The suspension could have been softer. When driving over large bumps there are impacts on the steering wheel. There is, of course, some roll in corners, but it’s small.
  3. The robot is dumb, although maybe I’m just not used to it yet. But I think that after the break-in, he will begin to think more quickly.
  4. There seems to be no noise at all in the cabin, the clattering in the arches is especially annoying. But the plastic does not knock or rattle, except, perhaps, on the shelf in the trunk.

Overall I'm happy with the choice.

This Lada X-Ray was assembled on February 29, 2016, and on March 5 it ended up with me. I took the Top Prestige package, with a 1.8 liter engine and a robot. Now the mileage is 5,700 km, the flight is normal. At first, I sometimes had to switch to manual control because the robot was thoughtful, but after the first 2,000 km everything returned to normal, and the car drove noticeably more cheerfully. XRAY is definitely worth the money! So, the other day I accelerated it to 170 km/h, it holds the road well and does not wander.

In this case, I won’t say that Lada is better or worse in some ways, she’s just different, although there were still annoying little things and they spoiled the mood. At first I had to wait 4 days for the title, because I purchased the car on Monday, and the papers arrived only on Thursday. And when it was time to pick up the car from the dealership, I waited 4 hours for the firmware to be updated, but for this the manager gave me a polish)). At first there were difficulties with starting due to a very soft clutch pedal. It handles potholes and bumps perfectly, but the plastic in the cabin is, of course, cheap.

Good day to all. Let me start with the fact that I bought my Lada X-Ray on March 10 of this year. Of course, the service life is short, but first impressions are encouraging. I chose the Optima package so as not to overpay for all sorts of options that I don’t really need. And everything you need can be supplied separately.

The engine is excellent, it’s enough for me, and short gears make acceleration even more dynamic. The suspension is super, it simply swallows all the holes and bumps! Overall, the XRAY is a good, high-quality car that is completely worth the money. I don’t plan to do much tuning, since my free time is spent on family. Good luck everyone!

Before that I had a Chevrolet Lacetti hatchback. When the time came to change the car, I decided to approach this issue with all seriousness. For this reason, I looked at a lot of literature, test drives and reviews, studied technical sites, attended test drives, etc. I will say right away that when choosing, I was guided by the parameters of the Lacetti, so that the new car would not be inferior to them - no less than 150 mm of road clearance, trunk at least 350 liters, max length 4,300 mm. The engine wanted was 1.6, but from 100 horses. The cabin had to have climate control, heated seats and windshield, at least a couple of airbags, ESP and “required” automatic transmission. The asking price is up to 800,000 wooden ones. However, I didn't want a used one.

So the Lada X-Ray suited me. Of course, the car is new, but it’s under warranty, and I’m prepared for various childhood illnesses and shortcomings!

It all started with the fact that on February 14 I went to Tula for the presentation of X Ray. After this, it was decided to change my Logan, which was 2 years old. I chose the TOP PRESTIGE package with a 110-horsepower engine from Nissan. Price – 698,000 rubles. Logan traded in on March 24 for 420,000 rubles, and received a discount of 60,000 rubles. So far I’m happy with everything, nothing knocks or rattles, there are no breakdowns, and the ground clearance and chassis only make me happy.

At first, I liked the “basalt gray” color the most, but the delivery time for the car in this color kept getting pushed back, which is why it was decided to choose from what the dealer had. I took the TOP+Prestige package, and the video camera played an important role, since I had one on my previous car, and I was very used to such a device, and I was completely satisfied with the quality of its work on the X-Ray. At the same time, the dealer installed gas struts on the hood, installed sound insulation on the wheel arches and underbody, and also purchased floor mats and installed anti-corrosion protection. Moreover, I lost almost 50% of the price of special extras because of a dent on the fender (apparently, it got caught on a car transporter).

The car works like a clock - nothing breaks, does not fall off along the way, does not creak, etc. It feels very close to foreign cars, except that the sound of closing the doors is a little different. Well, all sorts of little things - the glove compartment looks like it’s in a “nine”, you can’t change songs from the steering wheel, the plastic is oak and there’s not much space.

This is not my car, but my father's. Before her, he had a ten, but he still decided to get a new thing. They sold ten quickly, tested different options, but from the very beginning he wanted X-Rey, so they settled on it. We took it in the Optima/Comfort configuration - the minimum for a Nissan engine. I tried to persuade him to choose Top/Prestige, but to no avail.

Judging by first impressions, it’s very good – it handles well, rides briskly, and the interior is quiet. There is only one drawback so far - the visibility in the interior mirror is not very good. There was also a bolt lying right on the back seat. It probably fell out of the casing, I'll have to look for where exactly it came from.

I bought the car in mid-February, almost immediately after its presentation. I took advantage of the trade-in - handed over my 2-year-old to Grant, paid extra and drove home. So far I'm very pleased with everything.

The choice fell on XRAY. In principle, why not? Still, AvtoVAZ is starting to make really worthwhile cars. I simply don’t see any competitors, and Lada copes with its task of being an “anti-crisis” car 100%. Some people don’t like the VAZ emblem, but I got over these show-offs a long time ago.

I have a Nissan engine and a Renault gearbox, the package includes everything you need. The only pity is that there was no branded mother of pearl, so I had to take black.

I bought X Ray not for myself, but for my wife, instead of Matiz. I decided to go to Tolyatti. Still, it’s not very far to go, but the difference of 20,000 rubles, in comparison with Orenburg, is felt. My wife chose the color, and I defended the package, although she initially wanted something cheaper. We drove back in the rain, the sensor responded on time, and I liked the instrument lighting. I wasn’t tired on the road, although I traveled 520 km. But I didn’t like the low beam, so I’ll change the bulbs soon.

I like Lada. Of course, you can’t do without minor shortcomings, but this is no longer so important, and the price of the car, frankly speaking, is not prohibitive. When I was driving, the glove compartment began to creak, but I just decided not to bother, and after a week everything became normal.

It seems to me that the obvious cannot be denied. X-Ray is a budget car, but designed at the level of its classmates. I like the suspension, although for our roads it could have been made softer, the handling is on par, the steering wheel has good feedback, not empty. The sound insulation of the engine compartment is excellent - you can’t hear the engine at all up to 3,000 rpm. But the arches are rather weak - the clatter of stones fills the entire cabin with noise, and the mirrors become a source of hum after the 100 km/h mark. In this respect, the Lada is similar to the Focus.

Consumption is only pleasing, if, of course, you drive quietly - about 7.5 liters in the city. If you don’t think too much about efficiency, it comes out to about 9 liters. On the highway, my record is 6.8 liters, but I didn’t drive more than 100 km/h. The interior assembly is normal, nothing knocks yet. For music lovers, the sound, of course, is not enough, but for the average driver it is enough; it is gratifying that the speakers do not wheeze at maximum. Multimedia seems to be good, but if you use the touch keys, especially with navigation on, it starts to get dull. On the other hand, when pressing simple buttons it works clearly.

I've only had this car for a week. Moreover, X-Ray became not only my first VAZ, but also my first new car in general. Before this, I had a lot of used foreign cars, and for the past 6 years I have been driving Renault Scenics (diesel).

Of course, we can argue for a long time, but the car makes me happy, and that’s the main thing. And in general, I began to pay less attention to prestige. Perhaps age is taking its toll.

My first acquaintance with X-Ray occurred in the magazine “Behind the Wheel” more than 2 years ago. Then I immediately liked it, and when in 2015 the need arose to replace the car, there was no doubt - as soon as the Lada appeared at the dealer, the first thing I did was go to the car dealership. I examined it, sat inside and ordered the Optima + Comfort package. They gave me a discount under the trade-in program (RUB 60,000), but I had to wait a month. Of course, there were some shortcomings, but I and my family really like the car.

When choosing a car, I carefully looked through all the options within 650,000 rubles over the course of 2 weeks. He noted all the advantages and disadvantages. By the way, I want to say right away that my wife and I decided to buy only a new car.

In the end, we decided on the XRAY with a manual, 110-horsepower engine in the Thor configuration. We bought the car almost immediately after its official presentation, in February. They paid 668,000 rubles for it. The appearance is, of course, simply superb.

This is my second new domestic car. I like everything about it - the engine is sufficient (in general), it steers decently, although the gears of the box are still a bit short. In general, it seems to me that AvtoVAZ managed to make a worthy model, even if it was cobbled together from spare parts from France and Japan. The hatchback is safe and comfortable, so driving it is a pleasure.

I am 100% satisfied with X Ray! The hatchback is stylish and beautiful, I especially like the stampings on the surface of the doors and wings. And he drives great. During my ownership, I was able to drive on the highway, around the city, and off-road (dirt, snow, etc.) Everywhere the Lada showed its best side.

Inside are all the necessary little things - cup holders, niches for small items, pockets in the doors, a cooled glove compartment, etc. There are nets in the trunk for securing cargo, and niches behind the rear wheel arches. When the sofa is folded, you get a flat platform, which makes loading much easier, especially if you need to transport something large.

To be fair, the XRAY cannot be called a failed car for VAZ. And the 16,000 cars planned for this year will be sold. But, honestly, this is not a circulation that you should be proud of.

XRAY appeared in serial form last December. Even then, criticism began to pour in that the appearance of the car had little in common with the prototype shown earlier. Where is the lightness and swiftness of the image? She doesn't exist. However, compared to the donor Renault Sandero Stepway, the domestic crossover looks very good. Red suits him especially well.

Initially, the salon makes an extremely positive impression. There is an easy-to-grip multifunctional steering wheel, climate control with a display, and tasteful seat upholstery. But, after sitting, you understand that Xray has room to grow: the chairs borrowed from Sandero are uncomfortable (West’s “furniture” is much better), there is nowhere to attach a smartphone, and it wouldn’t hurt to build a makeup mirror into both visors.

But visibility is good - you can see everything from the driver's seat. I will only criticize the image from the rear view camera: the monitor has a fair amount of glare even in low light. But advanced navigation, which can guide you along the route taking into account traffic jams, does not allow you to abandon the multimedia system. And sometimes it does this no worse than the popular and free smartphone application “Yandex.Navigator”!

XRAY became the first car of the brand for which the latest 1.8-liter 16-valve VAZ-21179 is available. It has solid power (122 hp) and torque (170 Nm). So, I expected a lot from the dynamics of the top version.

But, as the classic said, young men have hopes. So mine didn’t come true. The potential of the engine is ruined by the obstinate automatic manual transmission (AMT): hesitations, dives when switching... Compared to the smooth and predictable operation of hydromechanical automatic transmissions, the AMT transmission seems like a fiend. Even I, a calm driver, was now and then furious with these delays and jerks. I also didn’t like that the car wouldn’t move after standing still and releasing the brake pedal. XRAY will only roll in response to pressing the accelerator. It's incredibly inconvenient in traffic jams!

The smoothness of the ride was also disappointing. The Lada regularly picks up all the little things on the road and bounces on bumps with a larger caliber. But there are no complaints about the energy intensity of the suspension - it does not lead to breakdowns. But where the beating is felt is on the steering wheel. If you drive for five minutes on broken asphalt, you will be completely exhausted. And it would be nice if the reward for this shaking was precise controllability - but it’s not. In corners, the XRAY is unsophisticated, it takes the arc reluctantly and does not indulge in informative feedback.

But off the asphalt, the XRAY moves quite confidently - good geometric cross-country ability (minimum ground clearance - 195 mm!) and good engine thrust at low speeds help. By the way, there was also a slope retention system. The test car is from the first batch - this means that you cannot turn off ESP - this function was not enough in the mud. However, since this fall, Tolyatti residents have made a number of improvements to the Ixray design, including adding an ESP deactivation button. Such a prompt response to customer wishes can only be welcomed.
