Of course, LG had gaps in the form of successful smartphones: Optimus 2X, Black, budget Optimus One, a series of inexpensive models of the L-Series, but individual successes did not lead to a general change in the situation. It seems that I wrote about the same thing before starting the LG G2 review, but it’s worth recalling that it’s not every day that we come across an example of a company, hard work and through many mistakes and unsuccessful decisions that finally found itself, or, it would be more correct to say , which began to find itself in this market with huge competition.


Last year's flagship, LG G2, was a real revelation for me (and for many users around the world) - good design(it was not there, but only the thinnest frames allowed the “Korean” to be forgiven a lot), excellent characteristics and a shell thought out to the smallest detail, which did not even have its own name, so apparently modest developers in LG. The smartphone was not devoid of cons, but against the background of the general balance of characteristics and interface, they simply did not want to be noticed, and they did not seem too serious. The new LG G3 successfully copies the main ideas laid down in the G2 - to create, perhaps, not the most beautiful and amazing smartphone with some individual parameters, but to make a very balanced device, equally suitable for a wide variety of users. The company really came out with a successful device, although not without its drawbacks. I will try to tell you about all the strengths and weaknesses of the new flagship LG G3 in this review. Go!


Design, body materials

If we talk about design as something bright, memorable and interesting, then, in my opinion, there is practically no design in LG G3. In addition to the battery cover beaten “under the metal”, the smartphone does not have interesting details, but I can’t say that this is bad. It's bad when a device with a completely missing design is also impractical, but this is not the case with the LG G3. Yes, the smartphone can be reproached for its dim appearance. Yes, many have already noted a strange strip with the LG logo under the screen, painted in light colors. If it were made black, to match the color of the rest of the front surface, the device would look more harmonious, for my taste. But with all this, the LG G3 is not a freak, at most it simply will not cause you any emotions, neither negative nor positive.

The removable battery cover is the main and only feature of the smartphone. On sale, the LG G3 is available in five color options, and in each of them the cover is painted in a certain color, as well as the strip under the screen I mentioned above. The official color names are Metallic Black, Silk White, Shiny Gold, Moonlight Purple, and Burgundy Red. If translated into a more understandable (at least for a man) language, we get: dark gray, white, golden, pink and light purple.


We must pay tribute to LG designers - the colors for the smartphone are not hackneyed, if you look at the pink, purple and golden G3, interesting and rare shades are taken. The only thing I want to draw your attention to is that smartphones look a little different in the press photo than in reality. For example, the first left LG G3 (black) in the picture above you can see in the pictures in this review, the difference in color is obvious. Therefore, before buying the LG G3 of the color you like via the Internet with delivery, I recommend that you still look at the device of this particular color live.

The use of plastic (again) in the flagship is a familiar thing for the Korean company, but LG is trying to diversify the process. So, in the G3, the battery cover is plastic, but made “under the metal”. To do this, a special film with a metallized texture (in mold layer) is applied over the plastic, it is fused into the plastic so that it cannot be accidentally torn off. According to LG, the film is resistant to scratches and fingerprints. For two weeks of using the smartphone, I really haven’t managed to “collect” any scratches on the cover yet. About the mark - it's true. The cover does not get dirty at all due to the textured surface, if any traces remain, they are invisible. But the main "trick" of the film, which LG is proud of, is its similarity to a metal surface.

I can’t say that the LG G3 of any color under any angle and light is perceived as a smartphone made of metal, but there is some truth in LG’s words that the lid is very similar to metal. At a certain angle, when light falls on the case, the "back" really seems to be metal.

Assembly

Despite the collapsible design (removable cover, removable battery), the LG G3 is assembled well. The cover "sits" on the body with the help of fourteen grooves and does not play at all, does not stagger. The block with three keys is also excellent. Separately, I would like to note the complete absence of gaps between the protective glass of the screen and the edges of the smartphone. In some flagships, there is such a gap between these elements, and dust is clogged there, LG G3 is free from this drawback.

Dimensions

Oddly enough, the bezels around the screen in the LG G3 are thicker than in the previous model, the G2. In general, the G3 is noticeably larger than the G2: the smartphone is wider, taller, and even the same thickness as last year's model. Marvelous? Not at all, almost all manufacturers today are striving to increase the screen diagonal in their flagships, and, as a result, the size of devices is increasing.

As you can see, the LG G3 is larger than the rest of the devices only in terms of the width of the case, while in terms of height, thickness and even weight, the model is far from being the largest. Of course, it is the large width of the case that primarily affects the usability of the smartphone, but LG engineers and developers tried to smooth out the dimensions of the device as much as possible using several software solutions. For example, you can change the location of the keys on the touchpad at the bottom so that frequently used buttons do not have to reach out. For example, I most often need the “Back” button, and on my favorite in many ways HTC One (M8) it is on the left, despite the fact that I am right-handed and reaching for this button every time holding the device with my right hand is uncomfortable for me. On the LG G3, I just moved the back button to the right and I don't have to reach for it.

You can add keys to the touchpad and remove unnecessary ones. For example, I added a button to call the notification curtain, and I no longer need to stretch my finger to the upper area of ​​\u200b\u200bthe screen (which is difficult to do on a 5.5-inch device if your hands are not like Alexander @Alex_Shvarz, For example).

Such little things, albeit not completely, but still smooth out the “shovel-like” nature of the smartphone and make it a little more comfortable to use. At first, this arrangement of the keys seems inconvenient, but after using the LG G3 for just a few days, you just get used to the buttons, start using them on a reflex level.


In addition, the LG G3 has a convenient screen unlock system - double tap on the display surface. At the same time, the system works, in my opinion, perfectly. If in the LG G2 it was possible to tap on the screen before it reacts and unlocks the device, here the unlocking occurs instantly after two short taps on any area of ​​the display.

There is also a KnockCode unlock system. In a square of four fields, you need to touch each field in a certain order; to unlock the device, you need to carry out this procedure twice in any area of ​​the display. This method is convenient in that it does not require you to enter numbers (they can be seen by someone else besides you during the input process), but also protects the device from random people.

The volume keys in the LG G3 are assigned actions for the standby mode. If you hold the volume down button for a couple of seconds in a state when the screen is off and the smartphone is locked, the camera will start, and if the volume button is up, handwritten notes will start. Unfortunately, you cannot assign other actions to pressing these keys in idle mode.

And briefly about the location of the connectors. At the top there is an infrared port and an additional microphone. On the bottom there is a microUSB connector, a 3.5 mm mini-jack for headphones and a main microphone. The speaker, camera, and volume and power keys are located on the “back” of the device.



On the front side, in the upper part, there is a speaker, light and proximity sensors, as well as a light indicator and a 2.1 MP eye of the front camera (not wide-angle).


The indicator light in the G3 can be turned on or off for several types of events: incoming calls, missed calls and messages, charging, new downloaded applications.

The controls need a little conclusion, in my opinion. The fact is that LG was one of the first, back in the G2, that managed to make not fashionable or "trendy" software solutions, but really useful for a device with a large screen. And in the LG G3, this idea has received worthy development. The ability to unlock the screen with a tap that works like a clock, the ability to change the location of the keys on the touch screen panel, remove unnecessary ones and add important ones for you, the ability to hide this panel in some programs - all these small details make working with the LG G3 comfortable, even if it seems to you that it is simply impossible to use the device with such a large display.

Screen

The LG G3 has a screen with a diagonal of 5.5"", physical dimensions 121x68, using an IPS-matrix (True HD-IPS +). Display resolution - 2560x1440 pixels (534 ppi). Yes, LG G3 is one of the first smartphones with such a huge screen resolution. By the way, my 27" home computer monitor, on which I am writing this review, has exactly the same resolution - 2560x1440. LG notes the difference between FullHD screens and the new QuadHD as follows: 1920x1080 and values ​​close to it are print quality in glossy magazine, that is, very high, while 2560x1440 is the print quality of a collector's art album, for example. However, I will not deceive anyone, first of all, myself, and to be honest, I don’t see any difference in resolution between the screens of LG G3 and HTC One (M8), for example.

Although to say something negative, considering the screen in LG G3, of course, it is impossible. The display has a large margin of brightness, viewing angles are maximum, even if the screen is tilted diagonally, there will be absolutely no distortion of the picture in color or brightness. Automatic screen backlight sometimes works to save battery power, that is, it sets the backlight level below the one you want to see, but during the day its work is quite correct. I especially want to emphasize the balanced color temperature of the screen, in my opinion, in this regard, the display in the LG G3 is just a reference, moderately bright, contrasting, but at the same time, calm in color reproduction, so even when working with the screen for a long time, the eyes do not get tired. It may seem a little pale to some, but this is a feature of the “flat” interface, not the screen.

The screen is covered with protective glass Gorilla Glass 3 and has an oleophobic coating, so that the few prints and marks that appear on the display can be easily removed.

Camera

The main camera of the LG G3 is a module with a resolution of 13 MP, an optical stabilization system along two axes (OIS +), a laser focusing system and a flash, an aperture of f / 2.0.


Laser focusing is one of the most important and interesting parts of a smartphone camera. This type focusing refers to the so-called. active, here are ultrasonic and infrared, for example. The sensor near the camera module sends many rays to the focusing object for a short period of time, then they are reflected and returned back, then the system calculates the time required for the rays to travel the path, and based on this data, produces accurate focusing. The advantage of this system is the very high speed of operation - the LG G3 focuses on the scene literally in a matter of moments, even if it is a complex scene with many objects at different distances. In some situations, laser focusing does not work as accurately or correctly as you would like, so the G3 also has an additional contrast focusing system.

In addition to photography, the smartphone allows you to record video in maximum quality close to 4k (3840x2160 pixels), as well as video with an increased frame rate of up to 120 fps.

Briefly about the interface. There are two modes of its operation - with the display of settings and without. In the first case, the smartphone automatically focuses on the object every time you move the viewfinder, shooting is done by pressing the button, you can manually focus on the object by tapping on the screen. In the second case, there are no elements and settings on the viewfinder, and shooting is done by clicking on any area of ​​the screen, that is, the camera focuses on the selected area at that moment and immediately takes a picture.


A little about the modes and the quality of the photos obtained in them.

Auto. The most common shooting mode with automatic settings allows you to shoot, morning, afternoon, evening and night, as well as macro and text. In a word, in any incomprehensible situation, it is easiest to shoot in "Auto". In my opinion, the pictures this mode on the LG G3 are very good even in cloudy weather.

There is no separate mode for shooting at night, so I used Auto. I can’t say that I really like the result: noise, lack of clarity, blur, but if we take into account the fact that all the frames were taken simply “by hand”, without preparation, a tripod, or even trying to take a picture without breathing, the result is no longer seems so bad.

magic trick. A mode in which the camera focuses at all possible distances in an instant, and then you can select any focus point in the finished frame. The same is at the software level in the Samsung Galaxy S5, the same at the hardware level, due to the use of an auxiliary camera, is in the HTC One (M8). But both of these devices, in my opinion, lose LG G3 in terms of the quality of this function. In the LG G3, focusing on different plans is most accurate and high quality.

There is also a panorama and dual shooting mode, when in one frame there is an image from two cameras at once - the main and front. Burst shooting is enabled when you hold down the capture button. The shooting speed is fast, up to 99 shots can be taken at one time in continuous burst mode.

Separately, I want to note the powerful photo editor built into the LG G3. In it, you can automatically improve the image, as well as change it manually. Among other things, cropping, image rotation and many filters are available. You can also change the brightness, contrast, saturation, shadows, color temperature of the entire image or selected areas. Moreover, there can be as many separate sections of the radius of your choice as you want on the frame, for each of which you are free to select individual settings. You can also change the sharpness of the frame and add one of the effects to it: vintage, drama, black and white, HDR effect, retrolux, frames, shift and tilt. Within each effect, dozens of options and settings for each are available.

Video. Now let's talk a little about video recording. The maximum recording quality is UltraHD (3840x2160 pixels), the standard is FullHD (1920x1080), in addition to recording at 30 or 60 frames per second, there is recording at up to 120 fps. Tracking autofocus works in video recording mode, but in the current firmware version on the LG G3 it is too slow and inaccurate, in my opinion. I hope this point will be corrected in the future, because otherwise there are no complaints about the quality of the video, and the quality of the sound recorded from the video is completely praiseworthy.


Offline work

The LG G3 has a removable Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 3000 mAh. Although the capacity has not increased compared to the LG G2, while the screen in the new G3 has become larger and more high resolution, in terms of operating time, the new flagship of the company is definitely no worse than last year's model.

My LG G3 sample worked a full day, on average, until the evening or late at night. The load was as follows: an hour and a half of conversations, 10-20 text messages, Gmail, 3-4 hours of listening to music and about 1-2 hours of active use of the mobile Internet (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, browser).


In the power settings, you can turn on the "power saving" mode when the charge level drops below 30 percent. In this mode, the brightness is reduced, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, vibration, auto-sync services and the indicator light are turned off.

The smartphone is built on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 platform (MSM8974 (MSM8975AC) with a 2.5 GHz quad-core processor, graphics subsystem (GPU) - Adreno 330. There are two versions of the smartphone, with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, as well as with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB built-in. In Russia, the first model is available, in a configuration of 2/16 GB. In addition to the built-in memory, there is a slot for a microSD memory card. The memory card slot, like the microSIM card slot, is located under the battery cover.


Performance, tests

The overall speed of the LG G3 is excellent, despite the increased resolution and, at the same time, almost identical Snapdragon 800 platform, the device runs smoothly, without delays and slowdowns. Of course, if you set out to find jamming in flipping through screens or menu pages, this can be done without difficulty. Launch all available programs, open 20-30 tabs in the browser, then go to main screen and flip through the tables very quickly! With daily use, I did not notice any lags or brakes.

Interfaces

The smartphone works in GSM, HSDPA and LTE networks. 4G networks are supported, including for Russia. You can enable and disable wireless interfaces through the settings or through the notification shade. The set of switches in the "blind" can be changed at your discretion.

USB. For synchronization with a PC and data transfer, the included microUSB cable is used. USB 2.0 interface. USB-OTG and USB-Host standards are supported - you can connect flash drives and other drives to your smartphone via an adapter, for example, a camera to transfer pictures from it to the device's memory.

Bluetooth. Built-in Bluetooth 4.0 module with support for A2DP and LE (low energy) profiles.

Wi-Fi (802.11а/ac/b/g/n). The LG G3 uses a dual-band Wi-Fi module, this interface works flawlessly. Like any other modern Android smartphone, the G3 supports the function of sharing mobile Internet via Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi router), as well as DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct standards.

NFC. Standard interface for any flagship on Android based since 2013, there is also in the LG G3. Enabled and disabled in the settings, in the "Sharing and connection" menu.

Navigation

Keyboard

As in the LG G2, the new flagship has a branded keyboard with several interesting features. Firstly, there are several themes to choose from and the standard settings for vibration and sounds that accompany the touch of the keys. Secondly, a system of auto-punctuation and capitalization of new sentences. Thirdly, a good dictionary with word suggestions for input. Fourth, the keyboard can be moved to the left or right edge of the screen for more comfortable one-handed typing, and split in half when typing in landscape mode. And, of course, I cannot but mark a separate line for entering numbers.


But the most important feature for me personally is the ability to add two keys with punctuation marks to the bottom of the keyboard at your discretion. It can be a period and a comma, an exclamation mark and a question mark, or a key to call all punctuation marks at once. Very handy setup!

And yet - in LG G3 you can change the height of the keyboard, and with it, accordingly, the size (in height) of individual keys also changes. A small keyboard is more suitable for someone, while someone, on the contrary, will stretch it to the maximum.

Due to these little things and overall high-quality performance, the keyboard in the LG G3 is, in my opinion, one of the most comfortable standard keyboards for Android smartphones.

Software features and software

The smartphone runs on Android 4.4.2 with LG's proprietary interface. As far as I understand, the company decided not to come up with a name for its shell, but it gets prettier from smartphone to smartphone, and if in LG G2 it was of high quality in terms of its capabilities, but, frankly, too colorful and ugly in appearance, the interface, then for the LG G3 the situation has changed radically. The shell in the LG G3 is not only very functional and thought out to the smallest detail, but also almost devoid of flaws, it is also pleasing to the eye. Conventional beauty in this case is expressed in the maximum simplicity of colors and shapes - the graphical design of the interface uses simple icons without unnecessary details, in a minimalist style, as well as a very calm color palette without unnecessary colors and wild mixtures of colors, so typical for Korean interfaces.

To tell the truth, while using the LG G3 for a while, I kept finding myself thinking: “Is this really a basic interface?”. This is not to say that the shell in the LG G3 is incredibly beautiful and stunning, but the work done in comparison with the G2 is amazing. If in LG G2 the interface lacked integrity, then here in G3, this is exactly what you notice at first sight - the interface is solid, thoughtful and made in the same style. And it pleases.

Now I will briefly talk about the most interesting features of the interface.

Phone, address book. The smartphone has a convenient dialer with the SmartDial function, you can find a contact without switching to the address book, but simply by entering the first letters of the person's first or last name. However, there is also an address book here, with search and sorting.

During the incoming or outgoing call The subscriber's picture is displayed in the center of the screen in a round window. In my opinion, the subscriber's image could have been made larger. Once in two.

Messages. The standard message window is represented by a list of contacts with whom you are in correspondence. Inside, everything is as usual - a message in the chat format. For correspondence with individuals, you can choose the theme of the chat design - the background image and graphics of "clouds" of correspondence. An interesting feature of messages is the ability to configure the sending of an already written message at a certain time of a certain day.

Desktop. Icon grid on desktop screens, 5x5, also up to seven icons can be placed in the bottom bar. Various screen flip effects are available on the desktop. You can also change the design of application icons and their size.

Lock screen. The lock screen displays new notifications and the time in one line, and a number of shortcuts are available in the lower area for quick access to applications. The set of labels can be changed.

Many programs can be pulled out as a separate small window on top of the desktop. The size of such windows and transparency can be changed at your discretion. Also, LG G3 has a dual window mode, when one program is displayed at the top of the screen, and the other at the bottom.

Preinstalled software. The smartphone has a convenient file manager with the ability to view files by category or in the general storage, search and sort by criteria.

One of the “finds” of the LG G3 interface is a clock and weather widget with a Smart Notice notification panel attached to it. The idea is simple - in the form of short notifications, remind the user of important things: weather changes, calendar events, missed notifications, and so on. True, while the functionality of Smart Notice is limited to notifications of just a few types (weather and new events), but if this set is expanded with new versions of the widget, Smart Notice will be interesting, in my opinion.

The LG G3 has an LG Health service that counts the distance traveled, the number of steps and the calories burned.

Branded case with a window-"porthole" on the lid. The back of the case is made of corrugated plastic, the cover is made of a leather-like material, most likely also plastic. The inside of the lid is lined with soft material. There are five colors to choose from: black, white, gold, blue and pink, as well as two versions of the case, with and without wireless charging (QI) support. The case with QI is installed instead of the original cover of the smartphone, while the version without QI is installed on top of the original one.

The window frame is a thin ring made of translucent plastic; when the screen is activated, it lights up for a few seconds. The window displays the current time, you can also select a widget to display the time with the weather. There are nine widgets with different clocks to choose from. You can also display in this window a mini-player, the number of steps taken, calls and messages. Not all messages are available, but only new, unread, as for calls, through QuickCircle you can view recent calls, as well as make calls. And lastly, with the help of a window, without opening the lid, you can take pictures.

Conclusion

I had no complaints about the quality of signal reception for three weeks of using the LG G3. The volume of the ring speaker is slightly above average, despite the fact that one speaker is used (as opposed to two in HTC One M8, for example), in most situations it is well audible if the volume is set to maximum. The speaker volume is also at a good level, there is a small margin for conversations in noisy rooms. The vibrating alert is average in strength.

The official cost of the LG G3 16 GB in Russia is 30,000 rubles (29,990), if you wish, you can look for gray supplies, but the price there will not be much lower. The 3/32 GB version for Russia has not yet been announced, but this does not mean that it will not be. It is quite possible that in the future this version of the G3 will also go on sale with us. Yes, the price tag of 30,000 rubles will scare away many, you can also complain about the fact that LG used to set prices on its flagships a little lower than those of competitors. However, before LG acted as a catch-up, with the LG G2 this situation began to change, and with the LG G3 it changed completely. For the price of any current flagship, you get not just a top smartphone, but a device with almost no compromises.


First, the company was able to pack excellent hardware and a 5.5” screen into a case comparable in size to 5” cases. Secondly, LG took into account the mistakes of the previous model's lurid interface and, I don't know for sure, according to recommendations intended for Android L or on their own, made the interface in the new G3 neat, simple and unified. Thirdly, the interface itself continues to be improved, as well as individual smartphone components like the camera. Yes, the LG G3 has flaws. In my opinion, this is a plastic case, albeit stylized as metal, and a panel painted in the color of the "back" on the front side, it spoils the appearance of the device, as it seems to me. You can also add the lack of protection against moisture and probably something else, but to be honest, I can't remember what. And this is precisely the indicator of a balanced device, when it is simply impossible to immediately name at least a couple of any serious shortcomings. Price? Like other flagships. Dimensions? Comparable to HTC One (M8), Sony Xperia Z2 and Samsung Galaxy S5. Performance? At the same level.

As a result, we got in the LG G3 an almost perfect flagship among smartphones in 2014. Yes, the company had a head start, they released the device later than other manufacturers, but LG was able to realize this advantage exactly as expected. The new LG G3 is well thought out and polished, so if you're thinking about buying a top-of-the-line Android device, it's the first model to look at, even if you didn't know before that "LG also makes smartphones."

At the same time, we all know how important it is to quickly catch the subject in focus. How many shots were ruined due to the sluggishness of smartphone electronics?

Finally, the portrait of a revolutionary is complemented by an innovative design using a metallic effect and record-breaking battery life, which was achieved using a capacious 3000 mAh battery. All this can be characterized by the formula “perfection of simple solutions”.

We are not talking about magical timbre abilities, but its volume cannot be underestimated.

The back of the device is removable, it is under it that there is a slot for micro SIM cards and a slot for a micro SD memory expansion card (the maximum currently supported is 128 GB). A pleasant surprise for those who are inclined to use the device, which is called "driving horses to death", will be the presence of a removable battery, which, alas, is not often found in modern flagships. Now, in order to give the smartphone a new impetus, you just need to remove the cover, which is very simple and quick, and change the battery. At the same time, the lid sits back like a glove. In general, I would like to note the high-quality assembly of the device, worthy of the status of a flagship smartphone, as well as pleasant tactile sensations when working with external controls - a smooth and clear move of the main metallized button and volume keys.

At the top, there is an IR port window, which allows you to turn your smartphone into a remote control for almost any technique. Fortunately, the built-in application has a huge database of all kinds of devices, and if necessary, you can search and third party programs on Google Play.

At the bottom there is a micro USB connector for charging and communication with a computer, a microphone hole and a standard 3.5 mm stereo headset jack. The rest of the ends remained absolutely “naked”, which may seem a little unexpected at first, but then you begin to appreciate such a decision.

The screen has a maximum resolution for smartphones of 1440 x 2560. And this is five and a half inches! Recall that such indicators are just beginning to appear on the most advanced laptops. The pre-installed video in 4K format also adds fuel to the fire, it is very difficult to convey the feeling of watching it in words. Many viewers, being under the impression, said that it was difficult for them to believe in the reality of what was happening.

The screen technology is IPS, which in the case of LG guarantees an excellent picture and excellent viewing angles. In the absence of glare on the screen, the image seems like a magazine page of a bright glossy publication. The used Corning Gorilla Glass 3 provides protection from scratches, but still, experience suggests that troubles occur at the most unexpected moment, so it is better to handle the device with care, avoiding contact with keys and other abrasive-destructive elements.

However, as is usually the case with leading manufacturers, an additional interface shell, written by the company's engineers, is "deployed" above the main "axis". It adds certain "chips" for ease of use, presentation of content and personalization of the device. This is, for example, the assignment of a certain color shade each of the important functions, a funny interface for stretching widgets when the “last” screen is reached, other funny and useful little things that make up a positive attitude towards the device and its developer. At the same time, as you can see in the screenshots, if such computing power is not required, certain cores either go to sleep or operate at lower frequencies. However, in direct sunlight, the display behaved well: it was visible no worse than on the display of the Galaxy S5. I did not like the work of automatic brightness adjustment: it clearly underestimated the brightness, even when the parameter was set to 100%. On the Galaxy S5, auto-tuning works clearly better. Now about the unthinkable clarity and so on. Yes, the image quality on the display leaves a very good impression: it is very clear, fonts, images look just fine on it. But in order to see the difference with FullHD, it will take a lot of effort. She, the difference, really is, but only with a very careful study. But there is no WOW effect here: if the average user is not told that two smartphones have different resolutions above, he will not notice this. Moreover, here we are talking about "Android", which scales the image approximately the same at different resolutions, so only by the clarity of the output of the letters you can understand that the resolutions are still different. When displaying large photos, yes, the difference is already more noticeable. It is also noticeable when outputting 4K videos. But even then, if you know what to pay attention to. As a result, I am ready to confirm the idea that experts expressed even before the smartphone entered the market: QUAD HD resolution is not at all necessary and many people simply won’t notice much difference compared to FullHD when using it. And then why release such displays, which also eat the battery, like an inspector at a funeral? However, let's talk about the battery. Well, here, by the way, compliments to the Android system: no matter how manufacturers pervert with display resolutions, the system normally scales everything at the steepest resolution values. Smartphone operation During the initial setup of the device, the smartphone prompts you to immediately set the so-called Knock Code - this is a set of touches on predefined parts of the screen to unlock. I will say right away, in my opinion - this is the best camera I have ever seen in smartphones. (Excluding Nokia Lumia 1020, which, for a number of reasons, stands apart.) There are two focusing systems here - laser (active) and traditional contrast. Laser focusing works as follows: a sensor placed next to the camera sends a lot of laser beams that are reflected and returned back, after which the system, based on this data, produces precise focusing. It really works very quickly, and the camera is aimed very accurately. In addition, if the result of focusing on several points did not suit you, you can simply poke your finger at the desired point, after which the corresponding focus will be performed and a picture will be taken. So the first moment is - fast and accurate focusing. The second point is the two-axis stabilization, which really works very well: I look at pictures with shutter speeds even at 1/12 (without a stabilizer at 1/80, blurring of the frame can already appear) - there is no blurring. And here you can already take one frame of each plot (in LG Flex I did 3-5 of them, and there was a wild percentage of marriage), without fear that there will be a marriage. Of the hundreds of photos taken during the test series, I did not have any marriage at all. And there the shooting was also under very poor lighting conditions. The third point is the work of HDR. For most modern smartphones, how does HDR (high dynamic range) work? The smartphone takes three shots with different exposures, then "glues" them together. It takes time - usually about three seconds. Here you set the shooting in HDR - and it does not differ in speed from normal shooting. But at the same time, you really get a frame in HDR, where shadows are well developed in contrasting lighting. In general, I really, really liked this camera. I won’t lie, the Galaxy S5 also has an excellent camera (and it can do HDR in the same mode), but here the camera is still cooler - primarily with faster focusing. Battery life With battery life, some problems were expected here. The LG G2 had an excellent battery life - the best among almost all flagships. In LG G3, the battery has remained almost the same, and the display resolution has increased markedly. And the fool understands that such a display from a battery of the same capacity will live less. LG, however, assured that new algorithms were applied here with energy consumption, so it would live at least as long, and among the reviews of the first users, the battery life was criticized by everyone. That's what happened to me. Internet. Wireless included types of communication, the brightness level is set to a comfortable 70%, the page is reloaded every half a minute in the browser. 7 hours 30 minutes. It sucks, the LG G2 has almost 11 hours. Video. Wireless communications are turned off, the brightness level is set to a comfortable 80%, in the player with hardware decoding, the TV resolution series is spinning in a cycle. 8 hours 30 minutes. The LG G2 has 15 hours and 30 minutes. In general, compared to the previous model, the performance is a little shitty, almost half as much. However, the smartphone survived until the evening even with active use. For two days he, of course, will not live in any way (in active mode), but one - he lives normally. Moreover, I carried the Samsung Galaxy S5 and LG G3 with me for two days, and used them alternately - that is, I gave them approximately the same load. So, in the evening they had a very similar charge level. So the conclusion is as follows: unlike the LG G2, the smartphone does not set any records, but the batteries are enough even for such a screen for one active working day, there is no tragedy here. Well, let me remind you that there is a removable battery, so nothing prevents you from buying a spare and carrying it with you - just in case a fireman. Yes, then it would not differ so much from the LG G2 (although there would still be a lot of differences), but it would be a very balanced device. In this case, it seems that the QUAD HD resolution was made more for marketing reasons. Although, I repeat, yes, it does, the difference can be seen. But only if you know what to look for and look very closely. Nevertheless, I am not disappointed with the smartphone at all, now I will use it as the main phone and see what else, maybe it will come out.
